  1. Hi everyone,

I am now officially delurking as I just need your help and
advice too much to not talk anymore LOL ........ I used to
post regularly here a few years ago when I lost nearly 60+
lbs - and guess what - it all came back + more.

I just cant stay on plan. I now am so big at 220lbs ish that
I dont have the energy to start again and exercise. I am
also struggling with horrendous TOM problems with varying
perimenopause symptoms, depression and stress !!! Recently
had a death in the family and other family problems - all I
did was eat more. Nothing made me lose weight.

This group was a terrific support to me years ago and I hope
that you can do the same for me now. I have been reading for
months on and off and think you are all so friendly and
    supportive to each other.

There are no clubs I can get to now. I did go to one
when I lost the weight but am not able to get to any
close by any more so if I am to do this I have to do it
by myself. This is what I am finding impossible. I cant
keep enough enthusiasm for one day - let alone a week, a
    month, a year !!

So - that is a brief introduction to me - my name is Libby
and I come from the UK.

Can I join your group ??

  2. welcome to one of the best places on the net. Now here is someinspiration
for you, a whole lot of my tom issues have gotten better since losing
weight, 88.5 pounds, and I am 44 so I relate completely, again welcome and
    best of luck, Lee

  3. Hi Libby! Of course you can join our group - the more the merrier. This is
my third (and last) time on WW. The first time I got to within 3kg of goal.
The second I lost only 2kg. This time I've lost just over 20kg, and have
kept it off for almost 6 months. I think the secret was the support of this
group amongst other things. Anyway, here's the welcome notice. I', sure
you've seen at least some of it before, but this time it's all for you 🙂

Welcome to this great newsgroup where you'll receive lots of
support, advice, and encouragement. Once a week on Sundays,
I post a list of links that newcomers to asdww might find
useful. You may want to look for that later in the week, or
do a backwards search for last Sunday's post.

In the meantime, here's our FAQ:

Here's a short synopsis of the USA program by Joyce -

How many points you can eat is only based on your current
weight, as you lose weight those points allowed will
decrease (logic is that your body will need less to
operate). At 183 pounds and based on the new US flexpoints
system, you will have a set point target of 24. In addition
to this you are allowed 35 flexpoints to be used throughout
the week ... as well as any activity points you earn on a
particular day. When your weight drops to 175, your target
drops to 22 points ... weight reaches 150, target once
again drop to 20 points. 3 servings of dairy of recommended
per day, 5 servings of fruit and veggies, minimum of 6
    glasses of water.

To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer
    desktop calculator ...
    zythra.compoints.exe

The basic plan is easy. Eat at least your minimum daily
number of points. Points do not carry over from day to day.
You are allotted 35 weekly flexpoints to be used at your
discretion ... can divide them up and use daily (would be an
additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them for a
special occassion during the week. Activity points are
earned based when exercising, but can ONLY be used on the
    day they are earned.

If you can afford $15/month, the online ww program might be
a great thing for you to look into. There is lots of
information available, as well as the food point database
    and journaling system.

Joyce WW starting weight: 228.8 - 2/5/02 current weight:
    133.3 Lifetime: 4/4/03

Please note that if you live in onther countries (UK,
Australia, NZ, Europe), the Points plans are different. The
UK and Australia/NZ calculate points based on saturated fat
and total kilojoules. Most of Europe calculates based on
total fat and total kilojoules. The desktop calculator above
can handle all of these programs.

Disclaimer: As an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup, asdww is
unusual in that most of the people who participate are
respectful, considerate folks who freely share their
experience with and knowledge of WW, weight loss, and
maintenance. Yet occasionally, spammers, trolls, and flamers
show up to post advertising, false information, insults, and
the like. Nearly all of the time, people like this are just
trying to yank someone's chain. Most of the regulars on this
newsgroup offer their experience as a suggestion to try if
you're stuck, but are quick to advise that each person has
to find what works for him/herself. If someone posts
something that doesn't sound right to you, ask the
newsgroup, ask your WW leader, or ask your health
    professional.

Much success on your weight loss journey! WW works!

You already did! 🙂 Be very welcome.

If you can't get to a meeting, think about the WW At home
plan or the on Line version. Those who have done it say it's
very good. We here can supply the meeting side of things...
And you get a daily fix rather than just once a week!

Were you on Pure Points when you did WW last time, or a
previous version? Lots of people are saying that the Pure
Points/Time to Eat program is easier to follow than
anything that went before (there are quite a few returnees
    in my meeting).

You have made those first and most difficult steps -
recognized the problem and asked for help. We'll give all
    the help we can.

I had 5 stone/70 lbs to lose when I started, and I'm over
half way there. I started with no faith and no motivation.
If I can do it, so can you!

BTW, where in the UK are you? I'm falling off the bottom of
    England, here in Kent!

Yes but there is still the financial side as well ..... dont
have a lot of spare cash and I KNOW what to do - I just have
to get going with it. I also have so many different books
and sets of books from my constant attempts at rejoining

My favourite was actually the one that I had when I joined
which was 123 Success 2000. The new Time to Eat is virtually
identical to that but the books you got with the ones when I
first did it were the best. I have about 4 sets of Pure

Well I have nearly 100 lbs to lose. I think this is half the
problem. So much to lose and I know about trying to break it
down into smaller goals which I do try and do but it doesnt
    really help my mindset.

cooperate with a weight loss program is tough business.
Especially when you've lost before, having to do it again
can feel like such an uphill battle. I think it took me two
full years from the time when I first got the notion that I
had to do something about my weight once and for all to
finally being able to commit to and stick with this new way
of eating. That came after menopause and depression and
stress. I can't imagine taking on weight loss in addition to
those major hormonal changes. Brava to you for even
considering it. Please don't be so tough on yourself if
getting started is hard. You've got a virtual tsunami going
on in your body with all the age-related changes occurring.
Do what you can as you're able and love yourself for making
    that much effort.

I don't go to storefront meetings. WW Online and this
newsgroup are my tools for support and accountability. So
far, I've been at this for 14 months, and now have somewhere
between 2 and 23 lbs to go. Early on, I discovered the value
of mini-goals because looking ahead to the total amount I
needed to lose was too intimidating and overwhelming. I'm
not one who could climb Mt. Everest by looking at the top of
the mountain. Nope, I need to concentrate on getting from
one base camp to the next. And not in any specified time
frame, either. I set mini-goals in 2-3 lb increments, which
were usually attainable in 2-5 weeks. If I ever thought
about quitting, I'd give myself permission to do so when I
reached my next mini-goal. Since they were never far off,
I've always been able to convince myself to stick with it
that long. And then by the time I've reached that mini-goal,
I'm so pleased with myself that it overpowers the internal
    voices of discouragement.

You might start by doing just one thing. Maybe make it your
goal to drink 8, 8-oz glasses of water every day. Make that
into a habit and declare a non-scale victory (NSV). Take
your measurements, record them someplace for easy reference
later, and declare an NSV for facing the hard facts. Change
your breakfast only, or your lunch, or another easy meal in
the day. Think about your real motivation for wanting to
lose weight and what might be getting in your way. For me,
    I've known that

body. No matter that I wanted to be slim. Being able to hide
behind my girth was the more powerful motivator.

Keep reading and posting, asking for and offering support.
One of these days, all the stars will be in alignment for
you, and you'll be ready. Welcome aboard.

    Hi everyone,

to not talk anymore LOL ........ I used to post regularly here a few years
ago when I lost nearly 60+ lbs - and guess what - it all came back + more.

I just cant stay on plan. I now am so big at 220lbs ish that I dont have the
energy to start again and exercise. I am also struggling with horrendous TOM
problems with varying perimenopause symptoms, depression and stress !!!
Recently had a death in the family and other family problems - all I did was
eat more. Nothing made me lose weight.

This group was a terrific support to me years ago and I hope that you can do
the same for me now. I have been reading for months on and off and think you
are all so friendly and supportive to each other.

There are no clubs I can get to now. I did go to one when I lost the weight
but am not able to get to any close by any more so if I am to do this I have
to do it by myself. This is what I am finding impossible. I cant keep enough
enthusiasm for one day - let alone a week, a month, a year !!

So - that is a brief introduction to me - my name is Libby and I come from

  12. oh Thank you and hugs for such a wonderful welcome Linda.
You have been another huge inspiration to me and looking at
your stats and mine - I am coming from where you were and
aiming to get to where you are now plus more.

well I have been trying for that as well - it is just that
I cant keep getting bigger and bigger.

    Early on, I

Great advice - and I know this is the right way to be. I
have often said I take the scenic route up or is it down the
mountain. Stop to admire the view on the way.

    I set mini-goals in 2-3

I've never thought of doing such small goals. Coming from
the UK I always go in half stone chunks but when I slow up
which is what happens with my screwed up metabolism from
30 years of yoyo dieting - I lose so slowly as well. This
is another thing that has stopped me being successful. So
many times I start and lose half a pound a week and then
give up. Having 2 lbs goals and achieving that is a great
    way of thinking.

    Quoted message said:

You might start by doing just one thing. Maybe make it

wanting to lose weight and what might be getting in

Another great piece of advice. I have tried to cut down on
things but as soon as I get hungry I just give in. I cannot
do it right now. This is why I wanted to unlurk and open up
and hope that by talking to someone I might find the
    enthusiasm to get going.

    For me, I've known that

  13. That's one of the reasons why I love weight watchers over
calories or anything like atkins. I could never ever do
atkins because I love bread and potatoes too much. WW means
I can still have many things I like just lower fat versions
and count the points. I too (when I am on plan) still have
what would be considered naughty foods but count them in -
that way I can stick to it.

Now that sounds like I am doing it but I am not. I was so
determined to try today but once again another day has
passed and here I am still not counting.

  14. Welcome, of course you can join in, the more the merrier! How about
starting to document what you eat, then making little changes here and
there, cut out one biscuit at a time (or what ever it is you decide to
set as a your change) Baby steps add up over time. Once you have a

I just cant stay on plan. I now am so big at 220lbs ish

You did it before - you can do it again.

If there are no clubs near you, there is still the "online"
and "at home" versions of WW. Or you can do it all by
yourself without paying a penny to the commercial groups.
www.fitday.com will let you record your daily food intake
and weight etc for free. You probably have all the WW
literature, so you know what sort of things to eat, or not.
For exercise you can start off by walking, and slowly aim
higher. Also you could try lifting weights (to which I'm now
    addicted).

Eating for many seems to be the logical way of dealing with
stress and grief (been-there-done-that). You need to find
other ways of getting your mind off of your sorrows to help
you not eat. (easier said than done, I know). Or at least
    find healthy things to eat.

If you really want to lose the weight then you will. You
need to find the right reasons in your heart to keep you
going. What were your reasons for losing the 60lbs before.
Re visit your goals to see if they still apply.

  18. My problem is staying with it - I can make good starts every
morning but I just dont stick with it. Sometimes I think
well I cant want it enough but I want it more than anything.
Why do I just sabotage myself so much ?

Welcome Libby to our little corner of Usenet. If you've
been lurking for any length of time, you already know what
a wonderfully supportive group this is. Our collective
sense of humor is just a bonus!

Getting the mind and heart and body ready and willing to
cooperate with a weight loss program is tough business.
Especially when you've lost before, having to do it again
can feel like such an uphill battle. I think it took me
two full years from the time when I first got the notion
that I had to do something about my weight once and for
all to finally being able to commit to and stick with this
new way of eating. That came after menopause and
depression and stress. I can't imagine taking on weight
loss in addition to those major hormonal changes. Brava to
you for even considering it. Please don't be so tough on
yourself if getting started is hard. You've got a virtual
tsunami going on in your body with all the age-related
changes occurring. Do what you can as you're able and love
yourself for making that much effort.

I don't go to storefront meetings. WW Online and this
newsgroup are my tools for support and accountability. So
far, I've been at this for 14 months, and now have
somewhere between 2 and 23 lbs to go. Early on, I
discovered the value of mini-goals because looking ahead
to the total amount I needed to lose was too intimidating
and overwhelming. I'm not one who could climb Mt. Everest
by looking at the top of the mountain. Nope, I need to
concentrate on getting from one base camp to the next. And
not in any specified time frame, either. I set mini-goals
in 2-3 lb increments, which were usually attainable in 2-5
weeks. If I ever thought about quitting, I'd give myself
permission to do so when I reached my next mini-goal.
Since they were never far off, I've always been able to
convince myself to stick with it that long. And then by
the time I've reached that mini-goal, I'm so pleased with
myself that it overpowers the internal voices of
    discouragement.

You might start by doing just one thing. Maybe make it
your goal to drink 8, 8-oz glasses of water every day.
Make that into a habit and declare a non-scale victory
(NSV). Take your measurements, record them someplace for
easy reference later, and declare an NSV for facing the
hard facts. Change your breakfast only, or your lunch, or
another easy meal in the day. Think about your real
motivation for wanting to lose weight and what might be
getting in your way. For me, I've known that

    Quoted message said:

body. No matter that I wanted to be slim. Being able to
hide behind my girth was the more powerful motivator.

Keep reading and posting, asking for and offering support.
One of these days, all the stars will be in alignment for
you, and you'll be ready. Welcome aboard.
