  1. Hi,Im not sure if people usually submit posts like this....
    I'm a 22year old male.I ran the 800m until i was 16 when i
ran 2:00 for the distance. After that summer i lost intrest
thru injury and trained very little until i went to collage.
When i went to collage i stopped altogether - drink, parties
etc. I even smoked for a while. Lately, ive rekindled my
intrest and have really enjoyed going on steady runs in the
evening. Needless to say im nowhere near the level of
fitness i had when i was 16 or 17! My question is to any
coaches out there who know, is it possible for someone in my
situation to begin training again after 5 years of parties
and generally being unhealthy and eventually reach my full
    potential? Thanks, Eddie

  2. How sad and ironic that you went to college, but you can't
spell college. And I don't even want to think about your
    "cumback"....

  3. Yes. You should be significantly stronger at age 22 than
at age 16. However, one of the major issues is, have you
gained a lot of weight since 16. Are you for example 30
or more pounds heavier than when you were 16 but are not
    much taller.

Weight is extremely important and it is certainly what
has made most of the people in this group run so slow.
For even though they don't feel like training much they
still shouldn't be so slow. They are overweight and they
just don't care because they don't want to give up their
undisciplined pigface munching habits of eating the
nearest food that comes by their faces. They will talk
about all kinds of training programs and how difficult
it is for them to run 30 miles per week and move up to
35 miles per week (what a laugh) yet don't look at the
most obvious thing of all, their bloatware. They talk
about how they don't have time to run even 30 minutes
yet spend 2 hours or more EATING. They really disgust me
    sometimes.

So yeah, if you've got it together then you can make a
comback. You may however need to join a track club to get
the motivation you need to stay consistant. A lot of the
guys on their own lose motivation real fast.

  4. Eddie, you ignorant lil' postule, You were on the right road
to becoming a real human being, so why did you ever sway
from your course? Well I'm here to tell you it's never too
late, you CAN still do it! Start right now, run to the
fridge, grab a brewsky, pop it open, guzzle away while you
roll a nice fatty, fire it up. Repeat as needed. Check back
with me in 10 years. TheBill Rodgers

I'm not a coach (and neither is macelroy though he claims to
be), but I would say, there's nothing stopping you. There
have been folks here that starting running after many years
of smoking for example. Weight and age are not reasons to
    not run either.

Eventually you do need to decide: are you looking to run for
fun and fitness, or are you thinking of becoming a "serious"
competitor? But you don't need to decide today.

But for now, you should have no trouble going out and
really enjoying running. If you were that fast in High
school, you should find that when you get ready to run some
local races, you'll pull out a trophy or two. That should
    keep you coming back.

Build up your strength with longer, easier runs. And check
out the running FAQ for more ideas.

And BTW, WELCOME to rec.running !!!! Ed

  6. What the? A 'comback' to a 'cumback'? Flame masters
getting duped by troll wannabees? My whole world is
    turning upside down.
    I...I...I can't take it anymore!

(That was a cute little collage of personal problems the OP
    listed BTW.)
