Ehhh... Are there any advantages to the online purchase? Like, more
options or better prices? Because if there aren't, then your question

I think everyone would rather go to a shop and buy a unicycle, but most
of the time that's not an option. I'm sure people would go to your shop
in stead of buying online if they lived close enough.

I say if you can't find any bikes shop that sell them. Try garage sales
with people who ride bikes. Cause chances are that some might ride
hi-class unicycles and you may never know. That's how my friend found
his *DX*. (I know it's not a *KH*, but you get what i mean.) 😄

If that doesn't work, then online is the way to go. 😄

Let Me Rephrase...If you had a shop that sold them and stocked them at
the same price as online would you rather buy direct from the internet
or at a retail store...

If I had to drive for hours to the shop I would rather just buy it
online and wait for it to arive in the post but if the shop was just
down the road from my house I would definatly go there and buy it.

I think a lot of people these days would go to the shops to look at the
item and ask for advice, but then go on-line and try and find the best
price and buy it on-line.

So you might have to compete with the best on-line price though you
would save the customer shipping though they don't often realize this.

You would also need to point out to the customer that you can sell the
unicycle ready-assembled which might appeal to some customers.

I luckily live within 20 minutes drive time of Bikeline. They can get
most things available on unicycle.com and stock a few unis and parts as
well. That's how I bought my first uni.... and my second. It's great
having a place that I can go to rather than order something and wait.

The only reason I went to the net for this last uni was that bikeline
couldn't get me the koxx one uni I wanted. If they would have been
able to special order it, I would have driven out to go get it from
them rather than send for it via the net.

It's especially nice because there are people working at the bike shop
who ride and have some knowledge of unicycles and you can get
recommendations on ways of fixing problems or upgrading that you might
not normally get if you were to send a few emails.

In Colorado the smaller sports stores are having a tough time competing
with the online stores and stores like REI.

Always support your local retailer if possible. I spend a lot on
ski/hike/bike gear and I mostly buy local even though it may cost a bit
more. It is worth it to keep a local business alive and keep
knowledgeable people around.

Being able to demo the unis would be great. I know I would stop by when
I'm in Boulder and try some out!

In order to compete with online retailers you have to match their
prices and offer greater service and customer support. Look at how the
ski shops do it these days. You could offer lessons, too, and package
the unicycles with protective gear to save the consumer some money.

Usually when people do polls on here they ask a question that isn't the
actual question they want answered. In this case it sounds like your
question is something closer to "Will it be financially a good idea to
stock KH products in our store?"

My answer to that would be that as long as you think you will have the
occasional sale, you are almost *guaranteed* to sell more of them by
having them on the floor. Most people have never seen a mountain
unicycle, at least not in person. Just looking at one might get them
interested.

And definitely, if my local bike shop (or one within reasonable driving
distance) had unicycles in stock, why would I want to wait for one to
get shipped? If you can compete on price, the instant gratification is
well worth it. Then if you stock the accessories, like safety gear,
hydration packs, shoes, you can work the accessory angle along with the
sale. You don't really need parts upgrades with a KH, unless the
customer wants multiple crank lengths, a higher-end seat, etc.

Sure, it's fine to learn on a good unicycle - but an expensive unicycle
like the KH, in my opinion will put a customer right off buying it.
