Well...... Three months ago, I went to a mid summer party / 40th birthday bash. Foolishly I got a bit drunk and agreed to cycle up Mt Ventoux. I've just got back from Provence, were three of us cycled up Mt Ventoux, not once, not twice, but three times (South, East and North routes) in three days. We may have also had three bottles of champagne to celebrate. (there seems to be a three theme here.....) We saw a large number of other cyclists struggling up Ventoux; many using an exceptionally little triple front ring. As Ventoux veterans (no triples!) we urge you all to get out and ride; but not with a triple ! With the risk of being flamed.... triples are for wimps ;-)

Well......

As Ventoux veterans (no triples!) we urge you all to get out and ride; but not with a triple !

Hey! I love my granny ring!
Besides which, it's a good feeling that when you are gradually getting fit, you work up from
dismounting & walking bike up hill to going up in granny ring and then going up without having to go
into granny ring! I love my granny ring!

I did Ventoux in 94 on 39x24, that same trip I climbed the Aubisque, Tourmalet, Glandon/Croix de
Fer, Alpe d'Huez and Columbiere. Couldn't do it now though on the same set up.

Entirely agree, except I never allowed myself to dismount, except under extreme provocation, usually
alcohol related.

Good one. I struggled up Ventoux on 42*27. Chuffed I did it. Surprised at the number of people
riding triple rings (hence my, somewhat, ironic post)
Not sure what to try next summer. Tourmalet,sounds good
