    Fascinating.

Since we're discussing Chuckles' mental maladies, can I request that
somebody clear something up for me? ISTR seeing a couple references
to the fact that "Charles" is actually the sock of another MFW
    regular. Is this true?

Not really. He changed his internet name, but has been upfront about his
identity. He basically dropped the identity with his true name and went
    with Charles.

I've done a similar thing - went from my actual name to 'Hobbes' and
sign Keith at the bottom. I suspect most people know Hobbes is actually
Keith Hobman. And most of us know who Charles is as well.

No [censored]? I thought Hobman decided to become a Las Vegas high roller
and dropped out of MFW completely.

He gave up the idea because of Cohen. That town ain't big enough for the
    both of 'em.

Good for you and I hope your class works out well for you. Where are
you located? I could possibly put you in touch with some good people
who would happily give you some instruction in powerlifting depending
on what part of the country you are in.

I'm in San Luis Obispo, CA. I've no idea what to expect of the class,
but I'm optimistic. It's a big enough school to have a fully equipped
gym. And I will be out of both of my classes early enough to hit the
gym I'm paying for afterwards, so I'm really looking forward to getting
back on track with working out. I've been slacking a bit this summer.

If you don't have a teacher that knows about powerlifting can I make a
    suggestion?

Talk to the teacher and see if you can invite a guest down for a class.
Then contact Jason Burnell and see if he would be willing to make the
drive. Pay his expenses. Jason is not only an excellent technician, but
he also communicates well and has a great sense of humor.

Or fly me down for a week. Or two. Jeez. I wouldn't even charge. San
Luis Obispo is such a beautiful city.

I dunno, if you can powerlift the machines, the weights ought to be that
    much easier!

I lost a fingernail to a Nautilus machine when I was in high school.
The temptation to pick them up and hurl them out the window remains
    strong.

I finally did just lose my fingernail (mine was lost to a garage door that

Oh, I tore the whole nail right off, all the way down to the bed. I was
in shock so it didn't actually hurt a whole lot at the time, but when I
got to the doctor's office a couple hours later and they removed the
bandage that the school nurse had put on? I seriously almost passed
out, and I'm not generally a big wimp. It sucked.

But I wrote an awesome speech for my English class about it that I
    totally got an A on.

Nice synopsis. I'd forgotten what his problem was.

    [snip]

    Fascinating.

Since we're discussing Chuckles' mental maladies, can I request that
somebody clear something up for me? ISTR seeing a couple references
to the fact that "Charles" is actually the sock of another MFW
    regular. Is this true?

I hear that Mike Lane is the ultimate source of all sockpuppets. Some
guy named Watson had some possible claims to being the source but that
later turned out to be untrue.

And I hereby declare that I am the morphed Mike Lane! ;o)

Our own Will is only about 2 1/2 hours from you. He trains with a
group of really good guys that I'm sure would love to give you some
training tips if you are willing to take a drive up the coast.

We could certainly give you some tips if you stopped by Santa Cruz. I
think 2.5 hrs is a slightly optimistic estimate of travel time, more
like 3-3.5 since there is no reqlly quick way from Highway 1 to 101 near
Santa Cruz. Email me if you want to set something up, our typical
training times are Monay and Tuseday just after 5pm and Saturdays at
8:30, although I often do strongman training at a park instead on
    Saturdays.

    AND...

I'm also a certified (level 1) olympic lifting coach.

Could you please elaborate (who does the certifications, what are the
various levels, what is involved, etc.)?

    National Coaching Certification Program

    http://www.coach.ca/e/nccp/

I'm certified up to level 3 in various sports - baseball, fastball, rugby,
    gymnastics, weightlifting, etc.

Mostly just comes with coaching. I've been working with the university
weightlifting team and will probably goon to higher certification in
weightlifting. The level one is really just kind of bs - go to a clinic.
Doesn't mean much. I've got my theory from other sports.
