Did the bike leg at Noosa in a corporate team on Sunday. I did it for fun and as a gentle start to my comeback from surgery - before I get into some proper training (including running😄 😄 )
What a friggin joke. 😠 Two things really p*ssed me off. First, the amount of deliberate drafting. I was passed by any number of pacelines, some with up to 10 riders - many on the aerobars (not just the front-runner🙁) . As some of these grupettos went up the road, more and more "triathletes" grabbed the wheel and jumped on (if you cant beat em join em / cheats). No motorbike drafting nazis in sight. On the rare occasion they appeared, they mumbled something like "spread out" and raced up the road . Honest buggers like me were left to shake the head and grind on un-assisted.
The other thing that got to me was the sheer number of bikes on the course. It was often quite unsafe. Heaps of novices with heads down on the aerobars on a wet road (yes it flogged down at times). Too many competitors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unsafe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (The number of competitors on the course did at times lead to some unavoidable drafting - but the stuff I described above did not fit into this category). They need to reduce numbers in this event.
To say nothing of the 45 mins I waited to get my bike out of transition after the event. I think '05 was my last year at Noosa tri.
