Trek vs Scott

Hi Stuart, it sounds like you are excited about riding and have done your homework on your next bike. Those are both good brands and good bikes and I doubt anyone could tell you why one would be definitively better than the other. Any advice would likely just be an opinion, ultimately your's of which matters the most.

Personally I like the Scott because of the very cool looking seatcluster. It is supposedly more aerodynamic too, but to be honest after having ridden so many years I know most of that is marketing language and is relatively insignificant in the real world outside of pro competition. It will not be perceptable on the road and would probably make little or no difference even in amateur competition, especially in a road race.

The Scott is slightly more agressive, by that I mean it has a slightly shorter headtube and all things being the same (stem angle, number of headset spacers), the Scott will have you 10mm lower. At your age this shouldn't mean much. Old geezers who don't stretch should be more concerned.

Rek and Gary fisher have pretty terrible after sales in this country, while Scott are pretty great down here.
Some point :
1-I'm looking for the pros and cons.
2-I will be riding on streets and a little bit of trails but mostly streets.
3-Unique and one of a kind bikes from
Cannondale, Cinelli, and Kestrel

Thanks heaps for the advice it has been very useful, but im tending towards the trek. I dont know I might change my mind after riding them.

FWIW & IMO. If you haven't stopped growing ... and, the odds are that you have not ...

AND, you haven't outgrown your current bike's frame ...

THEN, IMO, you would be much better spending either YOUR or YOUR PARENT's money on a set of better wheels + a set of Campagnolo shifters.

The wheels & shifters can always migrate to the "new" bike when you truly need a larger sized frame.

The word on the street and from magazine journos is that the Scott Foil's ride is not exactly comfortable. In other words it's supposed to have a bit of an unforgiving ride. I've not pedaled a Foil, so I can't say how valid the prevailing opinion is. Have looked at Neil Pryde's bikes? They're getting a lot of excellent reviews. I don't ride a Neil Pryde, FYI. My scooter is a Look.

You are not the first individual (nor will you be the last) who is simply looking for validation for a predetermined choice who then is a little miffed when someone doesn't offer said validation.

Lol! You can imagine how the poor chap who asked about 2 very specific different types of intervals on the Power forum felt after he was told "you just need to ride more".
