Are the prices of Trek carbon bikes --5200, 5500, et. al., -- starting
to come down? I was recently offered a brand new, still in the box,
Trek 5500 (year 2000) with a Trek guarantee, for €1,200 (about
$1,500). Anything wrong with this bike and this deal?
Somebody told me that because of Lance's somewhat tarnished image he is
no longer the role model Trek would like him to be.
Thanks for whatever info you can share.

DavyI'd be very suspicious of a NIB bike 6 years old. Either it's used, in
which case it's probably a reasonable price, or there's something else
fishy about it. Though I guess it's possible that somebody bought it
back then and stored it, hoping it would become a collector's item and
the price would appreciate.--

DavyI wonder whose reputation is more tarnished - someone who was caught and
finally admitted doping or someone that was never caught, has been donating
money to the antidoping people to buy the latest technology to fight doping
and the only "negative" doping news was totally unsubstantiated? As for the Trek - tell us after you send the money and nothing comes in the
mail. -

There are, from time to time, waves of fraud which meet this profile.
Keep in mind that you can't cheat an honest man or one who lacks greed.-paul

DavyTrek prices aren't 'going down' and Lance is as popular as ever....if
the bike is new, it really has a Trek guarantee and you don't mind
having 9s stuff, and it fits you-yes a good deal but a 6 yr old Trek
does not trends in Trek pricing make.
