Not a bad deal for $100, if you know how to assemble it, adjust it, etc. and it fits you. I think new assembled 5200s sell for about $2500.

Dude, what's is this, your third (at least) thread asking if something is a good deal? And this one is for something that's not even the likely finishing price! Come on, stop stressing, worry about whether something fits instead, and just shell out some cash. You won't overpay by enough for it to matter, especially on something as efficient as eBay.

Take a look at what 5200s go for on ebay. Often too much,but still an indicator. Watch out for a scam. Current 5200s list for about $2500 and don't go for chump change.

ahh yes, the scam. I should have thought of that. Remember this: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Learn how to use the "Completed Items" feature of ebay, then you won't have to ask people these questions...

Better yet, stop wasting your time on ebay and go buy a bike in a store (or go get a Scattante at SuperGo or a Douglas at Colorado Cyclist, FCS!) and then spend your time riding instead.

Lol I'm trying to buy the best bike for the least amount of money due to other things that I have to afford in life. And due to the fact that I want to start competing in triathalons and road races competitively if possibly, I want to have a good bike to race. So ebay suits my purpose somewhat, and due to the fact that I really don't know much about which bikes are good and what not I trying to use these forums for advice. If I knew which were good deals and what not, I'd not ask but as I am just the new kid on the block I have to stick to asking for the advice of all the highly knowledgable people here.

I guess my point is that if you are the "new Kid on the Block" then I recommend that you stay away from ebay and try and find a good bike store instead. While the 5200 is a great bike, you can compete very successfully with any number of lesser bikes. Also, maybe you should consider joining a team that is affiliated with a bike shop in your area - they sometimes offer large discounts on bikes like the 5200. There is a shop in my area that sponsors an amateur team and they offer team members the 5200 for $1,800.00! With a full warranty. Try to find that on ebay...

If you want to get in to competition, then get out there and start meeting people who can point you in the right direction for starting to compete. With ebay you are putting your hard earned money at greater risk. Not trying to be a wet blanket, but if you blow 1,200 bucks on a bike on ebay and things don't work out, then you are that much further away from your real goal which is competing...

One more thing, it is great that you want to ask questions about biking on this forum, I am just suggesting that asking questions about how to get a too-good-to-be-true deal on ebay is not something that anyone can answer reliably, because it is like the roll of a dice.

That's a really good point Randy. I forget that when I used to race, you could get a "Proform" discount. This was usually 5-10% below wholesale and designed to help shops develop teams and of course spread the bike makers name.

If the 5200 is truly new as stated, if you spend less than $1,100 that's not too bad. I personally wouldn't buy a bike from Ebay though... I really need to see a bike, ride it, and put it on a stand before even thinking of shelling out any money. Just be careful.

Also, remember on EBay, things don't really get hot till maybe the last 3 hours. And within the last 30 mins, bids could easily triple. I haven't been burned on Ebay yet (I expect it to happen in the future) and I never buy from anyone who has negative comments or no history. I'm much more comfy at buying from "Star" sellers.
