Trek 5000

That is a good price on a good bike. Unless you are a serious racer, I would not necessarily be looking for something "beter", but I would try other bikes to be sure that this is the fit you want. You can go up in price very quickly, but all you are really getting for the extra money is some weight savings and cosmetic differences.

There is no difference in geometry between the Trek 5000 and the Madone series, but I would look at the Trek Pilot 5.0, the Specialized Roubaix Elite, the Specialized Tarmac Comp, the Felt f5c, and similarly priced bikes from Giant and Cannondale. If you still like the fit of the Trek 5000, then go for it.

I just got the 06 Trek 5000 TCT and could not be happier.. major upgrade from my 3yo Trek 1000 ,, your price sounds great... too... what are the other components..??

If your from the U.S. $1299 is NOT A GOOD PRICE for a Trek 1500 especially a 2006 which u should be getting that for under $1100 and probably even $999 since the 2007 are already out. MSRP on Trekbikes.com is $1149.99 don't pay more than that.

MSRP on the Trek 5000, which is what the OP is asking about, is $1929.99. $1299 is a good price for the 5000.

Are you sure the 2007 are being shipped? When my LBS asked Trek about the 2007 Pilot 5.0, he was told they would ship about September 1.

oops I think I read the title of OpusX's thread and clicked on this one instead and didnt realize it said Trek 5000 in the post.

I just bought a bike last month and I was trying to decide between the Trek 5000 and the Trek Pilot 2.1 s.p.a. I decided on the 2.1 spa. The 5000 was only $150 more. But I spent time looking at the components on each bike (minor differences). There wasn't much of a weight difference between the two bikes either. But since I was switching from a hybrid to a road bike (and I have a bad back) I opted for the better suspension the 2.1 spa offered.

I was in the same position - 54 years old, bad back, and coming from a hybrid. I liked the Pilot 5.2 and the Specialized Roubaix Elite. I also had considered the Trek 5000, the Specialized Allez, and the Felt f5c. I ended up choosing the Roubaix.

I just had a 07 Trek 1500 shipped. I would think all bikes would be shipping.

Not to throw another wrench in the mix, but I was recommended by a knowledgeable friend to look at Fuji's!! I would normally never pay any attention to Fuji, but for the money-I got better componenets, signifcantly lighter weight and a good frame thats deserving of any upgrade in the future. I woud look at the Fuji Roubaix line at your price point. www.fujibikes.com
