Trek 4600 or 4500

the money. I also took a Hardrock Sport for a spin and it
felt flimsy compared to the Trek 4600.

couple of weeks; check groups.google.com to find it.

PS -- You didn't really say that you were going to choose a
bike based on the color scheme, did you?

Do yourself a favour - read that one back to yourself and
ask yourself if that store is ripping you off, or at the
very least lying through their teeth...

I'm a professional graphic designer, my entire life is color schemes. LOL... I was stating a preference but wouldn't get a bike based on color.

Well I called around and found a Trek 4500 in my size. The 4600 sounds nice but I don't want to purchase a bike no one else has tried.

Just remember, a properly used mountain bike will be so
covered in mud that you can't identify its color, anyway.

(Btw, Klein is known for its paint jobs. You can play with
all sorts of craziness on their site.)

The 4600 _is_ a 4500, with some minor changes to the drive
train prompted by Shimano's inability to deliver OEM parts.
Not to mention a different color.

If you pay attention in bike shops, you'll notice that most
mass-produced bikes, by companies like Trek, Giant,
Specialized, Gary Fisher, Raleigh, etc... use the same
frame for a range of bikes, adding better components as the
price goes up.

You are NOT buying any bike that no one else has tried in
the sub-$500 price range. In fact, there's a good chance
that many of the sub-$500 bike frames in the shop were made
in the same factory in China, regardless of the brand name.

You'll also notice that the cheaper the bike, the more
likely that it comes in different colors. <G>
