  1. I am looking to buy a touring bike. Has anyone got any advice ? The 520 is a
    bit over my budget ( $ 1500-2000 ) at $2300 . Also considering a good second
hand bike , size is 23'.

Check out the Mongoose Randonneur, as discussed here. There is a 'pro'
version now. The base version will give you some change for upgrades.

The Randonneur is a good bike, better is the Randonneur Ex, which is the
same bike with some component upgrades, Tiagra instrad of Sora, hard
setpost, better saddle and clipless pedals IIRC

I've been really happy with my Fuji Touring Series. My girlfriend's
touring bike is a 520 (which I maintain) so I've been able to compare
the two. I like some of the features of the Fuji better than the Trek.

I checked the Fuji corporate website and they do have a distributor in
Oz, so the bike may be available. However a Google Australia search
for "Fuji Touring Series" only turned up two sites. One of them was
from a usenet news article I posted last year. How it wound up on a
web site in Oz I'll never know. :-)

You used to be able to get a reynolds 531 frame, probable Sora groupse
from Cecil Walker in Melbourne for well under $2K, should be a bi
better now with the stronger A$

Check the frame builders in your local state if you are not a Mexican
