We are looking to get a new trailer (2 small children), would think to just get something cheap & cheerful... but the Burley has such a strong reputation for safety -- is it that good/that much better than other products? Are there any consumer safety/type tests/reviews online that I could look at?
2. Does anyone know where I can get the sort of child helmet (my choice, pls don't start debating!) that wraps all around the head (down around the ears, I mean)? To fit a child age 5+.

Does it? Durable, reliable and well made, yes, but I wasn't aware they were regarded as safer than any other.
Trailers all have similar construction - steel or Aluminium tube frame, with cloth or solid base - I think they would all perform in similar way in tip or collision - never happened to me though.

*Lots* - I've only ever heard of one incident, with the reversing loony the other year.

on the cheap 'n' cheerful front, I own the argos GBP70 offering (it is a phillip's shetland steel frame without the stroller conversion kit). It has proved perfectly serviceable for light use. It doesn't fit through domestic doors which is the biggest pain as it has to be collaped to enter the house. Collapsing it is easy but it would be nice to be able to wheel it straight in in inclement weather as my sister can with her burley solo. Perhaps all double trailers sufer in the same way?
Anyway, I notived that Argos are now offering a spokey joe trailer at the same price point. From memorythe two products look prety similar but it might be worth checking out

We have teh Lidl cheap-cheerful of a couple of years ago. Not only is it serviceable for light use, it carries 30kg of shredder quite happily too (though uphill speed is somewhat reduced, and I've cut a sturdy wooden board to fit inside so such loads bear direct to the frame and aren't suspended on the fabric).
