Gerorge, If you don't buy a roller trainer then I would recommend a fluid trainer. I have a mag
trainer and wish I had gotten the latter. The mag trainer is more noisy than I anticipated.

I have the mag trainer and for me it is not noisy.

You need to consider some videotapes - try spinervals.com PerformanceBike.com also has these videos,
I believe.

Nashbar has a trainer on sale for $79, also.

That's strange, my mag trainer makes no noise, other than the sound of the tire on the roller. The
mag trainer resistance mechanism on mine consists of a spinning flat disk between stationary magnets
)no contact), there's nothing to really make any noise. My guess would be that's a typical design.

I took mine apart because it started getting noisy. It turned out that the set screw on the disk had
loosened, and the disk was rubbing on the magnets, perhaps you have the same problem.

Buy a trainer not rollers if you are only going to have one or the other. You can do a lot of extra
things (one leg riding for practice of making circles, not pay attention to riding straight so you
can watch T.V., etc.) If you are getting one get the trainer.

Which one should you buy is a tougher question. Go to www.roadbikereview.com and look up the
trainers. They are all rated by users like you and me. wwwroadbikereview.com is an invaluable source
for finding the parts you need for everything on your bike. You will get much more information there
on which one is best for you than you will here.

Buy rollers with a mag resistence unit and make yourself a little sawhorse that fits over the front
roller with a QR mounted on it so you can take off your front wheel and whale away mindlessly if you

I got an Ascent mag trainer from Nashbar. I suppose it depends on what level of noise bothers
you. It is certainly not as loud as my old trainer with the fan resistance unit, but it still
seems noisy to
me. I can't enjoy listening to music with that constant background noise (If I have to crank the
volume too loud it just spoils it), so I got one of those handlebar mounted reading stands. I
kind of wish now that I'd spent some more money for the fluid resistance type, but that would
probably sound too loud to me also.
