I prefer MM to TL but I seem to be in a minority. That hasn't however
stopped me taking advantage of the 3 fo 2 offer to order some more
Explorers. I don't (as yet) have any 1:50000 digital.

You can download evaluation copies of MM and Tracklogs (don't know about
Anquet). When I compared them, I did not get on with MM at all, it just did
not seem to work the way I expected a Windows program to work.

Two things that MM does that Tracklogs does not are aerial photos and
support for Pocket PC. Of course Tracklogs may introduce these later (it's
four months since their last release so there may be new features in the
next one).

Trouble is you can't buy (legitimate) OS 1:25k map data that you can
load straight into Ozi .. you either have to scan paper (which I've just
been doing, 1947 1" series data) or you cut/paste from some other
package (and ignore any copyright violations).

I have pointed out to Tracklogs the limitations of their GPS
capabilities (it doesn't even download the timestamps from a track) and
they put it in their database of suggestions, so hopefully this area
will improve.

Sshhh! I'm busy working out how to BTGOF. I will have to include
the Xmas present coming from my daughters, and perhaps buy the ELD 40km
x 40km square myself.

Should cover everything I've done in that area, centred on NY 300 100...

More annoying to me is that it won't download the comments that go with
a waypoint (nor the specific symbol you chose to use, but I can work
round that). Also on their wish list.

yikes, the worms are of the time again!

This has been debated (to death?) in the last few months, but I guess it
largely comes down to them all being capable tools and it being a matter
of personal preference. Personally I would take TL over anquet (but not
by too much) and not touch MM with a super-sized barge pole. Others
will differ.

Having been away from the NG for a good while I have missed the endless
round of GPS software debates (yes I know it has been debated to death over
the last few years - not just months). Things change and it was a quick
question not really intended to start another lengthy session on the pros
and cons .... she lies and ducks for cover ;-)

Thanks all for the comments.

My only thoughts is that the Anquet mapping of the NPs seems to be larger
than MMs offering and comes with 3D plus aerial photos and surrounding
1:50000 - all for the same price. Tracklogs are slightly cheaper and offer
specific mapping at 1:25000 which would be very appealing.

What a shame OS couldn't have just decided on a format and let the other
companies slog it out with the software - it would have been much productive
for consumers but as it is you either end up locked in to one, or end up
with a messy mixture.

I suspect I'll end up with a messy mix - but I think I will leave it for the
time being until the Open Access mapping is complete and then at least the
maps will be up to date. Tracklogs seem to be the only one shouting about
offering this as soon as areas are mapped - but I may have missed the
fanfares on A + MM.

Anquet is already selling these where available.

/AOL to that. Actually if you have a GPS you'll probably wind up with a
messy mixture anyway, since I gather Garmin are still negotiating with
the OS to get the vector data to put on the GPS handsets.

I went with Tracklogs, but I fess up to using 'print screen' and
photoshop to assemble the same data in a format that Oziexplorer can
use. Tracklogs have the right OS data, and the ease of use, but are
still behind in the 'what can I do with my GPS' stakes (like they can't
upload specific waypoint symbols and waypoint notes yet, and their files
formats are all totally custom and won't inter-operate with anything
else).
