If anyone was walking the West Highland Way last week and came across a group of mad people pushing a young boy in a 3 wheel buggy then that was us , doing a sponsored walk raising money for a special needs school in Lichfield , Staffordshire . The idea was to push Shaun , who is a 9 year old with cerebal palsy in a special 3 wheel all terrain buggy from Milngavie to Glen Nevis then finishing off by climbing Ben Nevis via the Carn Mor Dearg Arete . Although there is a path all the way the terrain at times was quite rough and getting the buggy over it was pretty challenging . To get to Ben Nevis Shaun had to be backpacked and the buggy dismantled and distributed to the rest of the team to take along . There are some photos of the week available to view on

I was up there last weekend, and I wouldn't fancy pushing the buggy up the side of Loch Lomond. The stretch near Rowchoish Bothy was particularly risky, one slip and your in the drink. If anyone knows the point I'm on about, there is a waterfall which rolls over some big flat rock, with the drop being about 100ft vertical. I came across this section, looked over, and seen my spaniel ,'galloping' on the spot, with claws rattling on the slime, 18 inches from the drop! Dodgy stuff. Mind you, we survived that to be followed by 'death by midgy' in the tent that night! Iain

He certainly did and how well behaved he was too , some of the terrain was quite rough in places but he didn't complain at all . Throughout the whole week he only cried once and that was because he was hungry . Occasionaly someone pushing the buggy would slip or trip and this would be followed by a big roar of laughter from Shaun , I'm glad he found it funny anyway !
Towards the end of the trip he was getting quite acclimatised to the Scottish theme , take a look at the following photo & judge for yourself .
Excellent! He looks like he's having a whole shedload of fun. On a related note, some friends of mine are doing the Welsh '3 peaks' (no time limit) of Yr Wyddfa via PYG track, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan this weekend in aid of one of the cancer charities. -- Fran If you need my email address please ask.
