Yes indeed. I had of course (also in line with past events) already
opted to bugger off in a different direction.
What hurt was that no one had bothered to point out that I was under a
misapprehension if I thought St Sunday Crag was significantly easier
than Fairfield (the difference is only about 100 feet). I was so
exhausted that I had to stop for a bite to eat on what I had fondly
imagined was going to be a gentle stroll along an almost level ridge. If
I knew then what I know now it would have been Deepdale for me without
question.
According to Memorymap my personal epic involved 18 miles and 4716 feet
of ascent. According to the gps it was 84 miles and 4900 feet of ascent.
The ascent is almost believable but Marks gps was giving 200 feet less
than mine at the Hole in the Wall so the 4700 feet is probably closer.
