They have indeed but not anywhere approaching 100,000. I would expect

My brother-in-law and I did The Ben by the Tourist Track in August 1961
(or more likely 1962) on a foul day. He got to the summit quicker than
me and beat me down as well (and I only took 3 hours 30 minutes). It was
my first Munro. It remains his only Munro.
It used to be said that there as at least as many unrecorded Munroists
as recorded by the SMC but now Munro bashing is not considered a
perversion most of those have probably come out of the woodwork by now.
There are usually a few late arrivals in the list every year. In the
latest Journal out of the 235 listed there are 9 from the 1990s and 2
from the 1980a. No 3101 finished only a year after I did. I wonder if I
ever met him. In my last few years most of the walkers I met (not very
many) seemed to be like myself on the final stretch.
