Beautiful photos. I and 27 of Oldham Ramblers will be doing this area this

Hi Sean

spaces? I seem to recall a previous posting that stated you park on
one side of the road....and there were so many cars they nearly were
back at Seatoller!

Thanks for that Kev - it's gone a bit grey today. There will be at
least 26 more people up there than yesterday!

I'm planning to use Seathwaite as a base in a couple of weekends
time...what's the parking like! On a Saturday will their be any
spaces? I seem to recall a previous posting that stated you park on
one side of the road....and there were so many cars they nearly were
back at Seatoller!

It's an absolute nightmare to be honest. If you are going at a weekend,
I would say get there very early! You can park on both sides a bit
further away from Seathwaite, but it's quite limited. When I got back
to the car yesterday, there were cars parked a long way down the road -
yet there was no-one in the areas I walked. I guess they were all up
Scafell then!

If you're going to park there, and you get there early as Sean
suggests, it's a v. good idea to turn your car round at that stage so
that you're facing the way you want to go home. It can be a bit of a
PITA trying to find a turning spot later in the day when people are
making a move home.

Nice set of photos ...... I must say 'Greta Gable' looks really nice in the
third photo!

Been in shorts since the 18 March when Clare and I travelled to The Lakes
for a week. Had a couple of days with sunshine, couple with rain, and a
couple overcast but clear. However, each day was suitable for walking in
shorts and 'T' shirt ... although I did wear a fleece on most days at some
point in the walk.

This was taken on Sunday 19th ..... sure you can guess where we are going.

somewhere ? That kind of thinking ahead is not typical of yer average
girlie. [Really, no offence intended.]

If you do get there early, bag one of the spaces where the verge is very
wide, and then turning round is not a problem anyway as you can use the
space you've just left. There's quite a few stretches where you can park
completely off the road.

Been great down here on the South Coast. Plenty of blue sky at the moment -
after plenty of rain this morning! Forecast looks good for Friday, so will
be off to Dorset for a 12 mile circular 'stroll' along some of the SWCP from
Kimmeridge area. And in shorts!

idea!

Hmm, you've obviously never chanced upon a female committee then ? I mean,
does a babysitting circle need a chair, secretary *and* treasurer...

But I'm not sure how I follow that my advice can make the situation more
complicated. If a parking spot will lend itself to a spot of reversing, why
not simply park up and reverse at the time of leaving ? It'll also avoid
problems with following traffic (you can bet someone will nip in while you
are turning round). You can also tuck in nearer a wall if the driver's side
is away from it. (Most of the parking at Seathwaite is on the left as you
drive in.)

Note quite sorted. After walk, negotiate all the other people trying
to turn round/drive out in the opposite direction at the same time.
Once you've done that you can drive home.

Well, you never know! I've often found the weather brilliant in the
Lakes when it's been indifferent elsewhere. I'll cross my fingers for

The matter in hand is shopping, and later considerations don't enter
into the equation.

It's much easier to dump stuff in the boot when you get back if you
don't reverse into a space. It's easier to manoeuvre when reversing
out too. I don't see anything positive about reversing into a space.
