site and had a listen to your tunes. You sound absolutely fantastic, why
aren't you famous? realy, realy nice.
Started reading your Peninne Way report not finished it yet but it
brings back memories of when I did it, in the pre paving slab days. I still
wake up sceaming at all those man eating hags and groughs we had to wade
through. Did you encounter the marauding sandwich stealing sheep at Kinder
Downfall? Sad to hear Globe Farm has closed, they did a great breakie there.
My run was great, I nearly won it! I would have done too if the 85
people who beat me hadn't turned up. Still I did beat the other 75 so that
was good. Really icy decent though, Terrifying!

Thank you v. much indeed :-) I'm nowhere near good enough to be
listened to, let alone famous, and I also get heart-stoppingly nervous
playing in front of people, but nothing brings me greater pleasure
than making music, and so I'm always absolutely thrilled when somebody
enjoys it :-))

Those were the days... I was constantly aware this summer of how much
more difficult it must all have been, almost every step of the way, in
the days before the laid the paths! I've heard that people actually
sank to their deaths on Black Hill! Truly!!

Really! I'm not sure how people will manage, unless they have a change
of heart, or sell the farm on to someone else. If not then istm the
route may evolve to go through Marsden instead.

Some great photos captured there, the lighting effects of the low sun are often conducive to
atmospheric high contrast shots. You should get some belters in mid winter snow with a bit of luck.

Your days were opposite to ours in Wales - Saturday was dull with showers and Sunday was clear.

I have long been puzzled by the reputation of Black Hill. I paddled up
the Pennine Way on a damp fortnight in 1970 (27/9-10/10) and had no
trouble at all in reaching the summit trigpoint (or returning from
same). But even then Wainwright had warned of the maneating quality of
the surrounding peat. I must have just been lucky I suppose.

I play (some) guitar and more frequently now, penny whistle. I love
going to folk sessions and playing along but often get asked just to
play something. It goes so quiet I feel every little mistake shows up.

Excellent report , I only started wildcamping myself back in August so am
always interested to hear how other folk get on . What a contrast of days
you got as well , judging by the photos you wouldn't have thought they were
taken on the same weekend . I liked the shot of Lingmell & Great Gable , the
low sun at this time of year provides some great lighting effects .

Great Report Peewiglet! You've got a knack for these TRs! They're
extremely interesting! I too have only got through about half of the
Pennine Way TR - not cos it's difficult, I just keep forgetting!

Haven't had chance to listen to your tunes yet, but I'll give them a
go when I get home. Do you need a drummer? ;-) Having said that, the
only bands I've ever played with have been rock bands, so I may find
it hard to resist being generally loud and annoying...

I remember Black Hill. In my youth it was the local hill and I went
up it (and sank into it) in every form of weather known. You needed
to take a compass bearing to find the trig point, even in brilliant
sunshine. No paved paths; the map said the PW was "undefined".
