The clarity was incredible on Friday with a clear blue sky and sun on the snow, and still pretty
good on Saturday despite the high cloud. The sunset was painted by artistic smoky clouds over the
sea beyond Skiddaw - superb!. It was hard work climbing to the ridge with winter-weight packs, but
we kept it short and gave ourselves plenty of time to savour these rarest of days.

This was the first snowy tent pitch of this winter, and the vacuum flask had frozen to the ground in
the porch overnight!.

We wonder how many of the motley dozens filing up to Sharp Edge were about to get into difficulty
with the icy rock...was anybody there?.

I'm very envious - I couldn't go this w/e, and I can't go next w/e
either. Still, I suppose it'll all still be there in a few weeks' time

Beautiful photos Geoff - Friday was such an amazing day (was at
work!!) At least I was fortunate enough to be able to get out to
Wharfedale on Sat. The low-sun-and-high-cloud skyscapes were great
most of the day.

I can believe that, we could make out hills in Scotland that we've never seen before from the
Lakes. I'm not sure how far North-East we could see - the Cheviots maybe?.

Thanks for the kind comments. On Blencathra I actually thought about your Borrowdale trip and
wondered if you had travelled up for this. We nearly missed it too, the forecast had been for a good
Friday and crappy Saturday, but improved on Thursday night so we threw everything together at the
last minute.

A pair of ravens had been circling us at the tent pitch and followed us to Bannerdale Crags where we
stopped to eat. One landed and walked around us a few yards away dropping hints until we gave it
some bits of cake. We sneaked the camera out and got one snap.

I found Scales Tarn difficult to photograph effectively - that photo is in fact a 2-shot stitch. To
get the whole height of the cliff in the shot, I had to turn the camera in portrait and take 2
overlapping shots widthways. I could have taken 3 and got the whole tarn in, but I couldn't face the
fiddly job of eliminating the people at the left edge with Photoshop!. The result often doesn't look
quite right (at least when I do it).

I find the same ;-) Bit of a bumma having folk stand in the way of
your lovely pic, could you not shout "Get Orf Moi Larn" in their
general direction and act all hoity toity? Might have worked ;-)

I really liked the raven pic too :-) I absolutely *love* watching
ravens playing in the updrafts - they're like children playing in the
sea! :-)
