Second time in a week I've come across 'bimble'! Never heard it before I
listened to a Martha Tilston album of that name (great music).

Hi Lee. You didn't get near the Black Mountain - you went to the Black
Mountains - the "s" makes a BIG difference.

I was hoping to see pics of Bannau Sir Gaer or the Fan Brycheiniog etc.

Whilst I concede, reluctantly, that you have a point, my hidden pedant
within determines that I maintain that a hill called Black Mountain was
climbed within this TR!

I was on the Black Mountain in October, there's an awesome pub about 2km up
the road from Llandeusant which I attempted to eat out of steak. Pictures
weren't too good though, didn't get to see anything other than a giant cloud
within which I was immersed. It was a shame as the hill looked fantastic
when we drove in to the hostel the night before.

I think I'm doing High Shelf Stones, or something similarly named in the
Peak District on Sunday, so I hope there will not be too much confusion on
that one:-)

I presume you mean if they are the Black Mountains (plural) then any
one of them could be said to be a Black Mountain (singular) :-)

Which pub is that - the Cross Inn(sp) ? Iif it is ,they wouldn't serve a
snack at lunch time only full blown meals. Do they still feed the Red
Kites at 3.00pm? a Spectacular sight.

Especially the one at SO 255354. It's called Black Mountain in the
Nuttalls' book, though it's unnamed on the 1:25000 map. Lee seems to
have been following Walk 12.1 :-)

Black Mountain is the whole ridge and commonly given to the highest
point (Herefordshire County top)

The usual name for this ridge, on the Hereford side is "The Cat's
Back" quite apt for the skyline that dominates the city. The tail of
the cat is Black Hill, a fine wee summit with a good ridge but not
enough drop to make any modern hill lists. Still worth a visit, as is
the novelty of doing a totally English horseshoe (Around Olchon) in
the Black Mountains.

Chatwin's novel was set in the next valley to the west Ewyas., where
The Vision is situated. The Black Hill here is the same hill, but
from the Brecknock side.

Well worth a visit. BTW there is currnently an appeal going on to
save the threatened Capel y Ffyn Youth hostel in the Vale of Ewyas.
