  1. I have a Specialized SX with a bomber in the front. I'm thinking about putting a dual crown shock
upfront instead. The bike is outfitted as a slalom bike right now and I am very comfortable on it.
However, I want to do downhill on it but don't trust the current front end. Any thoughts?

I afraid I'm not familiar with the Specialised SX, but if the frame isn't designed for dual crown
forks DON'T DO IT! Ask your LBS if the frame can take the forks.

I made that mistake once, and after a few months riding the head tube ripped off the bike. I
got concussion and a few scratches and concussion, but considered myself lucky (it could've
    been worse)..

  4. The SX is their Supercross bike. I haven't seen too many of them outside of the competition arena,
so I think they may be rep to rider only. In fact, I got mine from a semi-pro friend, who was
sponsored by Specialized. It's very similar to an Enduro frame.

  5. The SX has a tube sheet width of 2.8mm as opposed to the enduro's 1.6mm

    It's built for abuse.

Which zoke are you currently using? I've been DH'ing the past couple seasons on a Z1 and have total
confidence in it. I've only bottom out a couple times on and it's been zero maintenance other than
    oil changes.

As you've mentioned, your frame is built for heavy duty abuse and I believe you could strap a DC to
it, but I wouldn't do it for a couple reasons. You only have 4.5" max in the rear (btw, that's I
currently have too) and anything over 6" (IMO) is really going to feel funky and unbalanced. So, say
if you stay at 5" or 6" at the front end you have a few really good choices. The Z1or Z150 would be
excellent choices. I'm not sure if you have a 1.5" headtube, but if you do then you could add a
    Firefly to that list.

For me personally, I'm staying with my Z1. I've been very happy with it, and now after a couple/few
seasons, I'm ready for the jump up to a DH specific rig. The same thing will probably happen to you.
Make your current bike as DH compliant as possible now, ride it for all it's worth, study up and
talk to other riders about their bikes and why they choose what they did. You'll find that your
appetite will change along with your knowledge and riding abilities.

But most importantly, purchase the best DH safety gear you can get your hands on. Trust me, it's
invaluable and you'll never regret it. Also, if I may suggest a good MX helmet. You can get a great
one for dirt cheap and they are much stronger than bike helmets.

  8. I have a Raleigh M 60 which I put a Noleen Chubby up front. It came with a RST 260 back in 98. I put
the Chubby on in 2000, frame still going strong. Its even been raced.
