tow bar cycle carrier recommendations?

Although I don't have one I've always been impressed by the Pendle carrier
and have heard good reports of it.

Tradekar SilverBike from http://www.roofbox.co.uk - my outlaws just
bought one, and I also have a Tradekar rack. Good value, strong
construction, optional third bike adaptor.

The Maxxraxx looks like a hang-on rack - IMO wheel support racks are
much better for your bike and accommodate a wider range of bike types
and sizes, as well as reducing the chances of damage.

I use a Tradekar Silverbike from www.roofbox.co.uk, with the third bike
adapter (as it's often used for three). It's easy to get on & off the
towbar - it locks on and it's easy to fit bikes, plus, with bikes loaded it
has a tilt mechanism which means I've still got access to the boot of the
car. Been to Italy, France, Germany... no problems.

The car can take 50kg of which 9kg is the rack. I have only taken 3 bikes so
far. The upright bars are moved nearly horizontally for storage, which makes
it thinner! The beauty of the TA mounting is that if you leave the boot up
when you have attached the bikes, there is still a possibility of lifting
the rack back off again without having to take the bikes off. I did need
help though (obviously). It came with a light rack so you will need at least
single electrics fitted. The only grumble I have is the variable fit of the
runners where the bike wheels go. It is adjustable, sometimes with the aid
of a mallet. I used Vaseline on them to make the process easier.

Probably the least fussy design around. Takes seconds to fit or remove
from the tow-ball with a sort of 'mole grip' gripping action. No need
to remove tow ball or anything. Very solid and stable despite
appearances. Takes seconds to fit one bike but 2 bikes but you might
(not necessarily) need to turn handlebars and/or saddles to make them
fit neatly - but then they take up minimal space.
