Touring tyres for 26" wheels

26 x 1.5 is a mountain bike wheel size.
26 x 1 3/8 is a 'roadster' wheel size.

The critical factor is the bead seat diameter. This is 622mm for a 700c
wheel and 590mm for some, but not all 26" wheels.

When it comes to bicycle tyres, 26 x 1.5 does NOT equal 26 x 1 1/2!

ATB 26" wheels aren't the same as other 26" wheels.

I would suggest you look at the relavent page on Sheldon Brown's site
(www.sheldonbrown.com), but I couldn't access it just now.

Is this on deep wet mud?, because the slick tread shouldn't make any
difference on road otherwise, even if the tarmac is broken up. I think
it's quite likely that you'd still be slipping even on knobblier tyres.

No, 650 won't fit. Look for "559" or a width expressed as a decimal.

These are great. I have a pair of 700-23's on my road bike at the
moment and have had no problems with slippy roads this winter.

You can get them in 26 x 1.25 which seems to be exactly what you want.

I've got the Marathon 26x1.5 on my tourer, and because they go up to 100
psi there isn't as much rolling resistance as you may worry. Great
tyres IMHO. Reliable and sure footed.
