I would imagine that "any kind" would not include Thorn and Orbit, which
is a shame as they'd be possible suppliers of good alternatives.

But you won't go wrong with either of those. Dawes have been cranking
out competent tourers for yonks, and the Galaxy is probably The
Canonical Classic British Tourer.

I suspect any scheme bike would have to be (a) this year's model, and (b)
full RRP. That said, I doubt a Dawes would be difficult for them to get.
Other threads suggest they can get Bromptons now, and Brompton are a lot
smaller niche player than Dawes (now part of a larger cycle group which
includes other cheaper brands).

I've got the Galaxy, and I think it's this one. It's a very good bike. I was
particularly impressed by the way the price was crossed out and the same
price was inserted a bit lower on the page! Interesting marketing
technique.

Well they do say that the only way to get more money for the same
product is by marketing!
I have (earlier) Dawes Galaxy too and it is excellent.

Yep, Halfords charge Dawes RRP but my reasoning is that that means I
can get the Galaxy for the price of the Horizon.

It's an absolute beauty, and you get the rear pannier fitted already,
woo!

New bikes smell lovely, but I'm not a privet.
