were forest fires at least 50 miles away in the Santa Cruz mountains and even that was bad, so I can
imagine it must have been terrible.

The wind is blowing out of the Southwest. It's sort of like a mini-Stalingrad or The Alamo. The
Firemen in Charge have decided that they *do not* want to lose Julian, so they've drawn a line in
the dirt and are making their stand. It seems dangerous (to me) - the main roads leading out are
all in danger of getting overrun by the fire, but surely there are some dirt roads they could get
out on if they have to. Craziness.

at my house in the "Two-Nine P" (far from the fires) it is dark and its dropped 30 degrees and it
smells like a chimeny outside... its howling out and everything is blowin around like the damned
second coming...

the fire wont get here, but the smoke from it is all over.. this is pretty surreal... if you have
ever been to joshua tree, you can imagine if it had an erie brown filterd light and smoke everywhere
with the wind folding everything over at unnatural angles...

I can understand why they don't want to lose Julian. Those small towns up in the mountains are
really nice. That whole area is what I visualize for a badass star route stage race. I saw some
pictures of Alpine having gotten burned up. Any idea how that town fared? What about Trent Klasna?
Does he still live in the Pine Valley/Descanso area?

Alpine proper is OK, but the surrounding area and homes burned. So did Descanso, Cuyamaca,
Harrison Park.

Pine Valley hasn't burned (yet). It's staggering, how much area that fire has covered - from Miramar
MCAS all the way past Highway 79 (Julian to Descanso), and it's threatening to eat up the rest of
East County.

Ya, sometimes he's too smart. Opens the latches on his cage - combination locks were no good either
because he'd twirl the tumblers endlessly till the lock opened.

Knows how to manipulate objects - chews down an empty frozen orange juice can to half size to make
it manageable, chews a hole in the bottom, then dips it in his water, tilts it up and drinks out of
it. That way he gets to drink the last bit of frozen concentrate. Drinks out of soda cans too, but
since they're aluminum, he can't customize them like he does with cardboard. I've had 5 big pets -
Poodle, Doberman, Samoyed, Golden Retriever, cockatoo. It's no contest, the cockatoo is smarter
than any of the dogs were, although the Golden was pretty sharp. The Samoyed was very athletic and
very dumb.

Don't know what his BF% is, but went to the BMI calculator site and he comes out at a BMI of 4.8.

lol, he is a bird. Birds can't be heavy. I'll guess a bird with a BMI of 25 would not be able to get
off the ground.

So, unfortunately he doesn't qualify as Masters Fattie although he eats like one.

BTW, his name is 'Fred'.
