Thank you, Wayne. Funny thing tho' I only started feeling shaky once I
got home - I guess it was just adrenalin or something - cos I still had
to drive another 25kms before I got home and it was "pouring" by that
stage... Have taken Andy's advice and am having a "stiff drink" - its
3pm here BTW - and I ain't driving *anywhere* else today...

Was watching yesterday, some show, and trucks were losing their
load, I said, change lanes if you're behind someone like that, you
never know if they tied it on correctly. Now we came close to you
being hurt, dang. I'm so happy to hear Good news.

Thanks, nance.... We drive on the left <no nasty remarks now> and,
thing is - our highways are nothing compared to those in the States or
Europe.... usually only 3 lanes on either side (unless its a major
intersection) .. Trucks are *supposed* to keep in the left "slow" lane
- but they never do... I was in the middle lane - cos my car is not
fast enough for the "fast" lane 😉 and this truck driver was impatient
and had moved into the middle lane to pass other trucks... and I do
usually try to keep out of their way but it it all just happened so
fast.... Oh - and the truck driver just kept driving, BTW - I don't
think he even realised that the stuff was falling off...

Lucky you Cathy. Loose loads on trucks are a real hazard. I worked in
commercial vehicle enforcement and that was one thing I had no tolerance
for. During my years of driving and working in enforcement I saw close to
two dozen loads fall off trucks. Two of them fell from trucks going by
while I already had one truck pulled over for inspection. One came off the
back of a truck on the highway as I was going down the access ramp. One
came off a truck that I was chasing down because his load looked insecure,
and one came off the trailer of a truck when I was standing at the side of
the road flagging it down.

I have seen a lot of damage caused by lost loads hitting vehicles, but one
of the worst accidents was one where a small construction delineator sign
fell off the back of a small truck. If the woman behind had just hit the
thing it probably would not have done any damage to her SUV, but she
swerved to avoid it and ended up rolling the vehicle 5 times. She did not
survive.

The traffic enforcement guys here do their best... but too many trucks,
not enough traffic guys....

I know what ya mean, but I think it is human nature to swerve... even
though we shouldn't in some cases...
