I have found you cop the yellers more on Sunday morning than Saturday morning. I have also found that lot's of people yell and open their car doors at you when in taxi's. Why the taxi driver doesn't just stop and throw these yobbo's out of their taxi's is something the cycling community should be lobbying the taxi drivers to do. It might just make the roads safer for everybody.

Amen to that. I'm new to road riding, and on my commute the other day through a large industrial estate, I had a taxi on the opposite lane rounding a bend rev the engine very high, and deliberately drift into right lane, laughing, before swerving back onto his side of the road. I was in the middle of the lane, indicating a right hand turn coming up. What a goddamn idiot. Although I must admit most melbourne drivers are very considerate, especially when you wait in line in traffic and they see you obeying the rules. One thing that narks me is when bikes filter up on the inside of left turning traffic at intersections - isn't this illegal?

Year ago I was out for a pedal with my father. It was a Good Friday because I remember the collectors were out collecting for the Good Friday appeal. We were riding out of town and had some young hoons chuck a stubbie at us, just missing us. The old man did his block and screamed at them to pull over but they did the old stop and take off again thing.
Ten kays up the road we came to a small town. We could here someone reving the guts out of a car, driving on a track on the edge of the town. Next thing we could see them on a road parallel to where we were, driving like idiots opposite lock on a dirt road through a 90 degree corner. Little did they know that a council worker had parked a ute at the small council depot just around the corner. These clowns went head on into the ute doing maybe 50kmh.
The bang was huge and there was smoke and steam everywhere. One of the funniest things I've ever seen - [censored].😄

Lower Heidelberg Road in Rosanna heading into the city. A few years ago they put in a red light just as you turn left (near the overpass). A car drove past my friend and the passenger hung out the window and yelled "ahahhhhh". He then turned to the driver and they both stared lovenly into each others eyes as they turned left and the driver failed to notice the red light. The driver hit a stationary car. My friend rode past and yelled "ahahhhhh" and kept riding.

Being a Brissie rider you are going to find that there are [censored] everywhere throughout Brisbane, Northside and Southside.I don't know what it is about people here in Brisbane (mind, you get [censored] driving everywhere) they seem to be more aggressive towards cyclists. Just be aware and alert all the time.I think it is about time the government put advertising on the tv regarding cyclists, like the ads they do for speeding. It could show how easily bikes get sucked into/under cars, and the repercussions of the action for the diver.

I agree. I would like to see advertisements on tv making people aware of cyclists and cycling. This could possibly include dangerous behaviour on the road and how it could impact cyclists as well as highlighting road rules that are applicable to cyclists but are not well known to other road/path users (eg cyclists being allowed to move to the front of the queue at traffic lights, cyclists being permitted on the footpath where signposted or when accompanied by a child under 12 etc).
We could also have another initiative (perhaps as part of bike week) similar to Motorcycle week. Here's what was on the Motorcycle Council of NSW site -
[font=Verdana]Motorcycle Awareness Week 2005
October 22 to 30 2005 [/font][font=Verdana]"The activities planned endeavour to raise the profile of the motorcycle community and improve the safety of riders"[/font]
[font=Verdana]"We ask that riders do their bit by acting as ambassadors and ride with good judgement, skill and courtesy"[/font]

You're right! It's about time something is done about those divers...

Cycling a couple of nights ago past a couple of bogans with a decent wind blowing. Bogan 1 hurks up a gobfull and tries to spit on me but the wind blows it back and it gets his mate. I nearly crashed the back laughing.

Oh boy aren't you in for a treat. Brisbane's richest deposit of bogan gold! Be careful around here I have a high instance of tossers pulling stupid stunts in this area. The worst thing is they may well be not directed at you specifically, but you could get caught up in the [censored] that follows. Just keep your distance and let natural selection take it's course.Latest experience was a BCC bus that clipped my shoulder with his mirror. I ride a hybrid with 28" wheels so I sit fairly high. The touch was minor, like touching shoulders with someone in a crowd. But oh my god. the fright was indescribable. Chased him down & got his number and reported him. This [censored] denied he even was close to me. But dude I have a black mark on my shirt where the road [censored] passed from your mirror to my shoulder! still reckoned he had nothing to do with it. Besides I was going to fast according to him. All of 30kph. This guy gets a finalist spot for [censored] of 2006
