  1. I am taking a 15 mg Zinc Gluconate supplement at the moment as part of
a campaign to heal an eczema problem (one a day usually, but sometimes
2). But I have read that if you take too much zinc, it can interfere
    with Copper absorption.

So I think I should take more copper to balance the increased zinc.
However, in the country I live in, you can buy a Zinc-only supplement
but you can't buy a copper-only one. The only way to get copper is to
take a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement, and then you're also getting
zinc as well as iron, which i don't want. There really isn't much
selection here, it's not like in the US.

So I'm looking for a (vegetarian) food source that has lots of copper
but not a lot of zinc. And I haven't found one yet.

I read somewhere that you can get zinc from copper cooking utensils.
However, some websites say that you could get too much zinc from those.
I was thinking maybe I could find a copper spoon or something. Or buy
some copper pipe and scrape off tiny amounts and put it in my food?

    Would appreciate any suggestions.

Who told you to take zinc?

that oral supplementation with zinc helps treat eczema.

An eight week double-blind placebo-controlled trial of oral zinc sulphate
185.4 mg per day was undertaken in 50 children with atopic eczema aged 1-16
years. In those receiving zinc there was no significant improvement in
disease severity as assessed by surface area affected and degree of
erythema, symptom scores of itch, sleep disturbance and redness of skin, or
weight of emollient or topical steroid use.

    Don't.
Eating metallic copper is not a good idea.

  3. MMu,

Thanks for the reply. Frankly, I don't trust scientific studies that
purport to prove the inefficacy of natural vitamin, mineral and herb
supplements. It's very clear that Big Science, bankrolled by Big Pharma
and their protectors in the research establishment, has an agenda to
put the natural health sector out of business. Operating now under the
guise of Codex, what you have is Big Pharma pulling the strings of the
regulators (and doubtless doing more than that) to get what they've
always wanted--the destruction of Natural Health, their detested
    competitors.

So, that said, I have read that zinc is necessary for Evening Primrose
Oil and Flax Oil and other Alpha-Omega acid containing foods to
synthesize the good healing stuff (whatever it's called, I forget) in
your body. That's why I'm taking zinc.

And I must tell you that since starting Evening Primrose Oil, Flax
Seeds and Zinc just three days ago, I have noticed a dramatic
improvement in my eczema. Dramatic with a capital D. This is a problem
I've had for over a year, and before I started taking these substances,
it was spreading rapidly. Now it's stopped dead in its tracks and is
fading away, replaced by normal, healthy skin.

And, yes, I know that EPO has also been debunked by the "scientists."
    But there you have it.

Now I would still like to find a way to boost my copper intake.

The standard rule of thumb is that you supplement with copper only when
you take more than 75 mg a day of zinc. You are not even close to 75
mg a day of zinc. So, there is no need supplement with copper which a
worst oxidant than iron in your body.

  5. Would there be any way to purchase
high purity copper sulfate and a very
accurate scales in your nation? Measure
out a small amount of the copper sulfate
and mix it in a filler such that you can
get an appropriate dose by measuring out
a portion of the powder. Or you
can move to the USA ;-)

  6. Thanks, John and Mr. Natural. Well, I don't know, there may be. But Mr.
Natural says not to worry anyway :o)

I think eating a lot of sesame seeds might be a good idea, because the
zinc copper ratio is a lot closer in those. 2 to 1 I think. Very
    healthy stuff, too.

  7. Needed for the SOD antioxidants: zinc, copper, magnesium, selenium,
manganesse. It could be that those in "studies" are blowing out the
zinc via too much oxidative stress, so the zinc can't do much for other
problems. I suggest you read some newsletters at www.efn.org/~raypeat/
or do a search here for some of my posts, just search for montygram. I
can't keep posting the same information all the time, which is why I'm
    writing a book.
