  1. For those of you that have been suffering training in the record heat this year I am posting this picture my friend sent me from the Swiss Alps taken this morning.
He says it's too cold to ride there.
Maybe if you stare at it it will cool you down a bit. It's been as high as 110 F on the pavement for me.

  2. Houston is in a record breaking heat wave so i run early in the morning and again in the late evening. during the middle of the day i won't even look out the windows for fear of heat exhaustion.

  3. I started sweating just pumping up my tires.

  4. Been riding earlier and still work up a heavy sweat. I've pretty much given up on the road as the cars throw out too much heat, and now I'm sticking to shaded trails.

  5. The US, particularly the Midwest and East, is cooking this summer, isn't it?

  6. We've had record breaking temperatures here in Central Florida, and a lack of rain is making things worse than normal. That being said, last night I managed to get caught in a torrential downpour on my return trip. Soaked to the core, but at least it wasn't so freakishly hot.

  7. I have been riding from 3am to 6am and it not to bad, but later in the day it is so
hot you can't concentrate on what you are doing and it becomes dangerous.

We have had heat indexes over 110`f regularly.

  8. A thunderstorm woke me up about 1:30 AM last night, so I flipped on the weather channel to see what was going on.

The temp was 82 with a heat index of 88. Our normal high temp this time of year is 83, and yet it was 82 in the middle of the night.

I drank almost 94 ounces of water on my ride this morning and still lost 4 lbs...

  9. I do hvac (air conditioning and heating) work. Yesterday I received a call at about 11:00 am. (already close to 100 outside with a heat index of 110) to replace a blower motor and wheel in a furnace. The unit , as most of them are down south, is located up in the attic.

I didn't get to the job until about 1:00. Needless to say, towards the ending of the job I could only go up in the attic for about one minute at a time and then come down for about four to five, that time being spent pouring cold water over my head which helped immensely.

My digital thermometer read 137degrees up there, the job taking me just under four hours to complete, usually about a two hour job.

  10. This past winter was so cold I couldn't ride....

Now, I live in South Mississippi, so I expect to have some HOT rides in the summer... it's the cold I can't handle...

  11. I've been losing 4-5 lbs of water weight on every ride and I drink a lot.

It's been ridiculously hot but I prefer it over the cold weather that is soon to come here in the Northeast. Soon I'll be relegated to the confines of my trainer down in the basement. So for now I am relishing every moment in the sun! 😎

You're missing one of the joys of cycling if you don't pedal in the winter. One of my best rides ever was in the Rockies, snow covering the mountains and flurries all around.

Wanna avoid the misery of the hot day? Ride early. Out here there are very few pedaling in the middle of the day when it's hot (i.e. >100°). The road surface is a lot cooler early in the AM, and that can make a huge difference on a ride.

  13. We are not having the triple digit heat this summer although the humidty has been 95%+. The relative "humility" has not kept me from riding. I love dealing with the elements in New England.

  14. It was 81 at 7am this morning and no end in sight.

  15. 81 is nice cycling weather.

I live not a million miles from Sacramento, so if I leave my weekend rides much past 11am then I have to deal with 100F regularly. Thankfully the humidity is normally only between 20 and 30%.

I've been up in Phoenix the past two weeks and by comparison it's just stupid hot up there. There were times I was walking to the car at 7.30am and it was 98F already... Getting out at 5pm in 110 and a butt load of humidity and standing on the asphalt was like standing over a BBQ with smoldering coals...

  16. It will be well over 100 on the pavement today and high humidity. I am alawys on my way to work at 7am, except for weekends so I will have to endure the heat this evening.
My bike sure smells bad after a hot ride, at least I think it is the bike.

  17. 99 degrees outside and hopefully not getting any hotter but i'm sure it will and i got to go install two commercial (self contained package) units on a roof at 1:00.

    fark.

  18. It's only 86 in Rochester today but with 97% humidity. I had to take it very easy on my commute into work so as not to get too sweaty and nasty.

When I get home I'm sure I'll look as though I just climbed out of a swimming pool.

I've seen road temps, here in excess of 140°. It's no fun being on the road at times like that.

  20. It's over 100degrees F(39C) here in toronto today with the humidity. Debating on going out for a little spin just now. or wait until later tonight when it cools down. I hate this kind of weather. Bring me some good ol' late fall/early winter cold weather and i'm in! love cool temps.
