  1. .....entertaining the P*nct*re Fairy and getting
    rained on. Bah.

Had to take a large parcel to the Post Office in South Cave,
since the one in Broomfleet has now closed altogether, so I
hitched up the Coz, and set off. Couldn't put the lid on the
Coz, as the parcel was the wrong shape to permit it, which
    was obviously asking for trouble.

Got as far as the motorway bridge on the edge of South Cave
and suddenly my already laughable speed began descending
rapidly towards full stop and there was a decidedly mushy
feeling from the back tyre. Stopped to look and sure enough
it was flat as the proverbial crepe. Bother.

I pushed the trike and trailer to the top of the bridge,
where there is a nice wide tarmac pavement on which to work,
unhitched the trailer, removed the back wheel and got the
tools out. No question about where the puncture was - there
was a nice big hole in the tube near the valve.

Checked the tyre carefully, but no sign of Pointy Things, so
in with new tube, and then the fun began - I am utter [censored]
at getting tyres back on. This one decided to taunt me by
slipping off at one end as I was squidging it on at the
other. I called it several Rude Names before finally
    wrestling it into submission.

A nice lady with a dog stopped to ask if I was OK at this
    point, which was much appreciated.

Got the back wheel back on, reconnected the 3x7, started
pumping up the tyre and of course the heavens opened and
several weeks worth of rain fell on my head in about two
minutes flat. We Were Not Amused.

Could somebody please remind me what month this is supposed
to be? Only I seem to have wandered into October by
    mistake.....

Anyway, got everything back together, rehitched the
trailer, which now resembled a small portable paddling pool
and trundled onward to the Post Office and only realised on
the way back that I'd lost my bungee somewhere along the
    way. Drat.

Commiserations. Treat it as a data point against which all
those blissful rides in beautiful weather on quiet roads can
    be measured!

The cyclepath this evening looked like Autumn had come
    early. Bits of tree everywhere.

I can always wind DW up just by singing "I'm a little
teapot". A few weeks after we were married she broke her
wrist. It was set at a slight angle, and for comfort she
spent much of the following few weeks holding it in the air
in a classic teapot pose. And since she happens to be short
and stout, the song seemed quite appropriate :-)

Since then, one of my pet names for her has been "My
    little teapot".

  9. Oh dear. Sympathetic noises from Norfolk.

Get yourself in a nice warm bath of bubbles, have some
nice relaxing music playing in the background and saok
whilst sipping a large glass of some chilled white
    fermented juice of grape.

    Cheers, helen s

Yes, but there isn't a bank there and I needed to get some
cash from the machine to pay for the parcel. Newport's on a
less pleasant route too - I very rarely go there at all.

Besides which, the ladies in the South Cave Post Office are
always particularly nice, cheerful and friendly so I like to
take my custom there if I can.

At the rain maybe not - but it's cold and windy too, which
is a bit much if you ask me :-)

    Thanks :-)

I did that, minus the fermented grape juice (not that it
wouldn't've been nice, we just don't have any in the house
at present) and listened to several more tons of water
landing on the immediate surroundings. It's much nicer when
you're inside and the rain's not.

I just hope it's not going to be *quite* so grotty at the
weekend - at least until we get the tent up :-)

Lots of banks let you take money out effortlessly at the
post office counter. Can't remember the exact ones, but I
    know Lloyds TSB's among them.

Thanks for that, but I bank with First Direct, which is part
of the *other* bank bunch :-)

Rob had a Lloyds account when he first started work. They
gave us no end of hassle a few years later and we both told
them where to go and moved to First Direct, who have been
    pretty good as banks go.

In the local paper it was "MK Dons". It's a thing
Milton Keynes has of using MK instead of "Milton
Keynes". Maybe they think people might not notice it is
    actually Milton Keynes.
