  1. Toby:

I think you are a good addition to this N.G.

You are, I guess we can say, "pro-alt", at least insofar as
you fall somewhere on the spectrum that is closer to
    espousing alternative medicine.

BUT...you also seem to have a decent head on your shoulders.
You don't automatically put up with nasty cracks put forth
by other "pro-alts", just because these people are pro-alt.

You call a spade a spade, and that's cool.

Let's get back to discussing alt-med and leave the bigotry
    and nonsense behind.

I might not agree with you on all medical matters, but I
think you're right on when it comes to eschewing bigotry and
    such stupidity.

    Mark, MD

P.S. I'm talking, of course, about Jan Drew. I like to
bother her because...well, because she's repugnant.
    (Look it up, Jan.)

LOL!!! Keep trying. Me thinks it is you who is bothered.

No need. I already looked you up.

my other hobby (time-waster in a big way is more like it) is
lurking around the Internet, annoying people who engage in
the dissemination of bozo-science medical advice. My
favorites are the "NutraSweet causes brain cancer" folks and
those who would have us believe that milk causes diabetes. I
could claim it's my duty as a high-falutin' medical
professional, but really it's just my natural pugnacious
    tendency."

Most people out grow this, keep tryin Marky, maybe you will
    grow up some day??

Thank you. However, whether I will have enough time in the
future to contribute much, I don't know. I'd like to, but
    ..duties call. We'll see.

Don't know about "espousing", but my life experience is
"alt", if that is what you mean.

And, no-one should assume endorsement of anything by
someone, due to their silence. If in doubt, ask 'em.
Sometimes the reason for silence, when one is otherwise
present, may be the sheer futility of any response.

I usually prefer that others ask me something directly
rather than make assumptions, about anything. Probably we
    all do, I don't know.

Ok.. Is there any alt therapy that you use or have ever
tried and found, at least not tooo bad? Anything you would
ever recommend, as a Doc to a patient?

(What kind of Doc are you?)

I hope it does not end in verbal fisticuffs 🙂 (You may
remind me of this if it were to occur)

I saw a post somewhere today where you, too, spoke out
against it. I'm glad that you did. Seems like just about
everyone's put their cards on the table, as it were, irt
that. Helps to clear the air, so we are able to move on.

    I'm a pediatrician. I don't personally use that many
interventional therapies at all, alt or conventional. I
meditate a little and I like green tea, but I'll also take
ibuprofen on occasion if I have a headache. I'm open to the
idea of going to a chiro, but so far my back isn't giving me
    any problems.

I have recommended alfalfa tea to breast-feeding Moms when
their milk supply seems inadequate to meet the baby's needs.
In my experience with this, it seems to have about a 50%
success rate (bearing in mind that in this series, my n=2)

Contrary to what others might say, I'm not part of Big
Pharma, I don't have a vested interest in maintaining the
status quo, I don't get a big fat check for suppressing
    secret miracle cures...

...I'm interested in what works. If Hulda Clark were to ever
subject her methods to genuine scrutiny, and if such
scrutiny upheld her claims, I'd be the first to say Hooray.

The problem people like me have is that so much of "alt med"
is visciously antagonistic toward anyone who questions their
methods or efficacy. A conversation might start innocently
enough with a query about St John's Wort, for example, but
it can quickly spiral away from SJW and become a slugfest
with religion, ethnicity and all sorts of other nonsense
thrown in. And the antagonism comes from both sides, too.

What's your experience with alt med been like?

I don't know if this will work for other mothers. It worked
for me when I was nursing my own son in the 1960s. Many
women, myself included do not DRINK enough water, juice and
milk when nursing infants. It was suggested to me to take a
*complete mineral supplement* and drink MORE liquids. More
of everything! I soon needed those pads to catch the excess
    milk. Just a suggestion.

Yes, it has worked for a few other women I've known,... but
    there's always that placebo effect.

    Aloha,

    Rich

So, did your mamma or your daddy teach you to whine so much?
Was it "mamma mamma, those kids called me a name? Or was it
daddy daddy, those kids don't like me cause I'm whining
about the fact that they do not like me?
