Albertson's closed a lot of stores in Colorado and sold the rest which
still operate under the Albertson's name but are merchandised much more
like the Stater Bros. I remember. The new owner supposedly buys stores
and flips then after a few years.

Whole Foods is trying to buy Wild Oats but its president may have shot
himself in the foot with strange online posts he made trying to
denigrate W.O. to get the price down.

I sure wish we had Trader Joe's in Colorado!

There's a Ralph's that's on my way home from work which is a nice, big
store and usually well stocked. I stopped today and was dismayed to
see that they're doing a big store remodel (which didn't seem needed
to me), but they're staying open during the remodel. They've moved
aisles here and there and moved, say, the baking aisle over by the
laundry soap aisle and the beer (the DH is always so much happier when
he gets home and there is beer in his future) was separated from the
wine and liquor by the pasta/canned vegetables/canned meat aisle. And
the cheese department is missing altogether. I felt like I was in a
market that had been looted or something. Entire display shelves were
empty and big open spaces were blocked off like crime scenes. They
have these weird carpet sections taped to the floor, which makes it
hard to run a cart over them. I expect they're covering up gouges in
the floor where displays had been yanked out.

Looks like Stater Brothers is my go-to store for a while. It's sort of
on my way home, but they usually don't carry the more esoteric
ingredients that Ralph's did. <Sigh> May have to break a nail and go
all the way down the hill to Gelson's (which should be known as
Gel$on'$).

Where in SoCal do you live? They just opened a Sprouts in my town and 2
more are coming to the OC area very soon. Overall, the Sprouts seems like
my kind of place. Nice meat selection, good produce, a lot of bulk items
and possibly the biggest selection of supplements and vitamins I have ever
seen. Way, way better than Trader Joes which has gotten pretty stale but
then they're opening another one of those a few blocks from the Sprouts in
December.

Do you have a Bristol Farms anywhere near you? That market has a lot
of good stuff.

Also, one of my favorite markets in the L.A. area is Jon's. Good
prices, and a lot of variety. Exotic ingredients, and good produce.
Don't know if you have one anywhere near you though.

Albertson's is closing all over the place. Don't be surprised if
your store never reopens (as you knew it).

I've been to all of them, even mystery shopped some of 'em. There's a
Stater Brothers about a mile from the trailer park here in Azusa; their
claim to fame is their quality meat, which is better than Ralph's. I like
to shop at the ethnic supermarkets for very, very fresh produce. The closest
Gel$son'$ is in Pasadena inside of the shopping mall. Jon's Market's took
over several closed Alpha Beta stores and Ralph's stores. These stores are
geared to the Armenian community, and they also have very fresh & good
produce at reasonable prices. I bought a pound of their Armenian Coffee that
was on sale at $1.99/lb, the regular price is $2.49/lb, it has a nice coffee
flavor. Bri$tol Farms is also very pricey, and in the San Gabriel valley
area of SoCal a pain to try and find a parking place.

Yahbut - it has its entire parking lot chain linked off with
construction cr*p all over the place and a big sign that says "Opening
Soon." Hope springs eternal...
