I was thinking the same thing. I always thought the Tirreno was a hard
race a few hilly stages where only complete riders could win. The past
shows that: Rebellin, Bartoli, Sorensen, Rominger, Saronni, Moser, De
Vlaeminck. I think these guys are more than sprinters. I wonder why
the race is so focussed on sprinting this year. The organiser must
have wanted Petacchi on his winner's list very badly.

It does give sprinters some better chances of gaining protour points. I
think it's good that at in at least one stage race it's possible for a
sprinter to win the GC.

I don't know. OK it's not necessary to have mountain stages or some
other kind of extreme stages. But a race that is purely decided on
bonification seconds seems a little strange to me. A prologue of 5km
is much more usefull.

Maybe stage wins should be rewarded with more ProTour points (e.g. 5
instead of 1 for non GT stages)

Maybe it's OK for a tour to be tilted towards sprinters. No reason to make
them all the same is there?

No,but cap and ball, muzzle loaders and crossbows are the only weapons
that meet the UCI specs. Armstrong wanted a cavalry carbine, but the
UCI says it serves no purpose other than aerodynamics.

Armstrong is still working to have it the next time he time trials up
the Alp d'Huez. So do you weigh it at the bottom or when he gets to
the top?
