Convert inches to millimetres - multiply by 25.4. Be warned that the tyre may not actually measure
what it's supposed to be, so, if you don't want to take a chance, it's best to do some research
first or compare widths by seeing the tyres in person (pref inflated on same rim).

Fractional and decimal *diamteters* are not compatible. It's important to ensure tyre ISO matches
the rim ISO.

27-by-x has no 700-by-x equivalent; they are not the same size of rim. Close, yes, but
*not* the same.

I inch is 25.4mm...so a 1 inch tire is like a '700 by 25' tire. 1 3/8 inch is 34.9mm...'35'

As far as the WIDTH is concerned, multiply by 25.4.

Diameter is a whole 'nother ball game, I'm still not sure haw they figure that out. A "700" tire,
for example is NOT 700mm.

As others have said, Sheldon's site will reveal all, but here's the short version:

A 20 x 1 3/8" tire *should be* the same as a 35-451. I've never anything different, but in the
bicycle world you never know.

"451" tires are somewhat rare, but there's more than two. Any tire that is printed with a xx-451
designation *should* interchange. The Green Gear/Bike Friday folks are a good source for them:
