Tire of Choice?

Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CXes are fantastic (very supple and nice rolling), albeit expensive. Though at places like probikekit.com they are much cheaper than in the shops.

Most of the time I use Vittoria Rubino Pros, which I am quite happy with.

I have ridden some Conti Ultra 3000s and was left somewhat unimpressed; they were nowhere near as grippy as the Vittorias.

For training, Vittoria Rubino Pros. Anything more serious and I use Open Corsa EVO CX.

Another vote for the Open Corsa Evo CX - gorgeous rubber. But they wear out easily (you can easily make a completely bald spot on a tyre by locking the rear wheel for half a second) and they're very susceptible to cuts and punctures. I use Conti Ultra Gatorskins now - they feel surprisingly fast and comfy for such tough tyres.

I'm on my 3rd set of Conti GP 3000 here. No flats and great wear....2500 miles on the rear now. They hold up much better for me than the Michelin slicks I previously used.

Veloflex Pave Kevlar. Sweetest tires I've ever had. Not exactly cheap though.

Plus I use a product called Panaracer Flat Away inside the tire.

It's like felt except it's made from Ballistic Kevlar.

Same idea as Mr Tuffys but lighter.

over 1000 miles on this set of tires and not a single flat.

Heard good things about Tufo tires too.

Yeah, I second that. For clinchers, they are all I use now. Love them.

Michelin pro race. So far I have about 1500 miles and just rotated them. They wear and roll great. I've had continental 3000's and the new attack/force combo...the pro races just ride better.

panaracer stradius elites. a littel heavier than most offereings, but i'm not a featherweight climber. best grip out of any tire i've tried (contis, vittoria, vredenstein, michelin) and they wear like iron. my fave

Just about everyone is going to bark at me for this, but I just can't believe you can feel a difference among tires. I sure can't. I had the spendy Vittorias because they came w/ my build kit until they got sliced up and worn (in like 500-1000 miles). Then I swapped to cheap Specialized Mondo Pro, and they wear a heck of a lot better (couple thousand miles on them now, and no signs of wear). I had a set of Michelin Pro race, which felt the same, too, but I got two flats in a week after none with the others. Sold 'em.

All felt the same, assuming the same inflation pressure. It cracks me up when someone says 'these tires roll fast!'

Well I guess I'm more practiclar than than the average rider here on the list. I ride quite a bit and have two bikes I ride regularly. I'm also big 6'4 at 205 pounds so perhaps tires wear out faster for me than others. If I get a good six weeks out of a tire thats great. That being said I just don't have the dough to drop $30-45 dollars each time i need to buy tires. Knowing that a couple days latter I can sometimes put a slice into it and the tire is done for. Lots of debris around here in New Jersey. So I don't have a particular brand. If I see something that looks good and is priced well I buy about 6 of them. I know I'm going to use them eventually. Same for tubes. So the last batch I got were conti 2000 at around $8 a piece. They rode nice and lasted well. As for flats I found if I check the pressure regularly I rarely get them. One this season so far.
