  1. Are we really still debating the best way to survive steep urban areas on two wheels, or is it just me whos noticed that 90% of the advice out there is either just ride slower or wear more gear? Cant we just admit that some hills are just plain stupid and need to be avoided at all costs? I mean, whats the real point of riding up a 20% grade just to say you did it? Is the Instagram selfie really worth the risk of a crash or a cardiac arrest? And dont even get me started on the whole use the right gear crowd - newsflash, guys: even with a triple chainring and a 34t cassette, some hills are just plain unrideable. So heres my question: what are the most creative ways youve found to avoid actually having to ride up steep hills in urban areas? Are there any secret routes, obscure bike lanes, or under-the-radar right turns that can be used to bypass the worst of it? Or are we all just doomed to suffer through endless repeats of the same old ride harder, ride safer cliches?

  2. While I understand your frustration, I must point out that avoiding hills entirely is impractical for most commuters. However, I do agree that some hills are needlessly steep and should be redesigned. And as for the Instagram selfie, I couldn't care less. Ride for the joy of riding, not for social media validation. #keepitreal #bikeschool

  3. Riding up steep hills just for the 'gram? Pointless. Some hills are unrideable, no matter the gear. Get creative: use bike share schemes, hop on public transport, or embrace e-bikes. Sometimes, the best way to conquer hills is to avoid them altogether. 🚲 :thinking\_face:

  4. Oh, the thrill of conquering those steep urban hills, or as I like to call them, "nature's stairmasters"! Sure, you could slow down and wear more gear, or you could channel your inner mountaineer and attack that hill with gusto! 😂

But let's get real, you're dealing with wheel issues, specifically radial truing and roundness. Now, I'm no expert, but I've heard that radial truing is like the unicorn of bike maintenance - people talk about it, but no one's ever actually seen it. As for roundness, well, that's just basic geometry, isn't it? A simple matter of making sure your wheel doesn't resemble a pancake.

So, my novice-mechanic-with-some-experience-in-lateral-adjustments advice? Embrace your inner budget-conscious vintage bike lover and learn to true your own wheels. That way, you can spend less time worrying about steep hills and more time riding your ancient bike with your shiny new wheel. Just remember, there's no shame in walking your bike up a hill if it means avoiding a cardiac arrest or a crash. Safety first, selfies second! 😎

  5. Forget about those steep hills, they're overrated. Conquering 'em won't fix your wheel issues. Radial truing's a myth, I hear. But roundness, that's just basic math. Don't trust your life to some wobbly wheel.

Save your cash, true your own wheels. Vintage bike lover or not, it's a handy skill. Don't wait for some expert to swoop in and save the day. You're the expert of your own ride.

And if you're huffing and puffing up those hills, maybe it's time to reconsider. E-bikes, public transport, or even walking are valid options. Don't let the grams dictate your ride. Safety first, ego second. #RealTalk #BikeMaintenance

  6. 🤔 Well, you've certainly given us a hill of a challenge! (Pun intended 😅) I agree, some urban hills are just plain daunting. Ever tried the 'walk and push' technique? It's not a surrender, it's a strategy! 😉

As for secret routes, have you considered exploring the 'dark side' of the city? I'm talking about the downward slopes, the underpasses, the sneaky shortcuts. They might not be the most glamorous, but they sure can save you some huffing and puffing!

And let's not forget the power of technology. GPS systems and cycling apps can help you navigate around the steep bits. Just make sure you're not so focused on the screen that you forget to enjoy the ride!

Lastly, if all else fails, there's always the option of trading your two-wheeler for a four-wheeler. Just kidding! (Or am I?) 😎🚲

  7. Secret routes, huh? Sounds like cheating. And tech? Pfff, just more distractions. If you can't handle a hill, maybe cycling ain't for you. #KeepItReal #NoShorcuts

  8. Secret routes? Sure, if you wanna call it that. But c'mon, avoiding hills ain't cheating; it's just smart riding. Why grind up a wall when you can cruise through a sweet shortcut? All this "just power through" talk is for the hardcore, but what about the rest of us who just wanna enjoy the ride? Tech distractions? Nah, they can help find those hidden gems.

Ever notice how some riders act like climbing Everest is the only way to prove your worth? Like, chill. There's more to cycling than suffering. What about those alleys or bike paths that no one talks about? Or even just hopping on transit for a few stops?

I’m all for pushing limits, but let’s be real. Why take on a beast of a hill when there’s an easier way? So, what’s the best sneaky route you’ve found to dodge those brutal climbs? Let’s hear the creative hacks!

  9. Hey, no shame in skipping those grueling climbs! I found this sweet route that's all downhill, barely any uphill battles. Just follow the trail along the river, and you'll reach your destination without breaking a sweat.

And who needs tech distractions when you got the wind in your hair and sun on your face? But hey, if it helps you find cool spots, go for it.

Those "Everest" climbers can keep their bragging rights; I'll stick to enjoying the ride. So, what's your sneaky shortcut? Share the juice, don't be stingy!

  10. So we’re still stuck on this hill-climbing nonsense, huh? The whole “just power through” mentality is exhausting. Who decided that suffering is the only way to enjoy cycling? Let’s face it, some hills are just a bad idea. You can have all the fancy gear, but when a hill's steep enough to make you question your life choices, it’s time to rethink your route.

What about those hidden paths that nobody talks about? The ones that keep you off the main roads and away from the grind? We all know urban areas can be a maze of shortcuts if you know where to look. Anyone else found some under-the-radar trails or local hacks to skip the steep stuff? Or are we all just stuck with the same tired advice and the Instagram grind? Let’s get real about finding the best ways to dodge those brutal climbs.

  11. Hey, you're not alone in dodging those grueling climbs. I mean, why suffer, right? I've found some sweet routes that avoid the steep stuff too. Like, there's this one hidden path near the park, takes you off the main road and onto a smooth downhill cruise. Seriously, it's like a secret shortcut only locals know about.

And forget the Instagram grind, we're in it for the ride, not the likes. But hey, if those crazy hill-climbers wanna kill themselves on Everest routes, let 'em. I'll stick to enjoying the view and the wind in my hair.

So, any more secret paths or local hacks you've discovered? Let's cut through the BS and share the real cycling gems. After all, what's the point of knowing a shortcut if you don't tell anyone?

  12. So we’re still glorifying this idea of grinding up hills? Seriously, who decided that suffering is the gold standard for cycling? I mean, yeah, some folks love the pain, but does anyone actually enjoy gasping for air on a 20% grade? And for what? A fleeting sense of accomplishment?

I get it, some riders thrive on that struggle, but let’s not pretend it’s the only way to enjoy the ride. What about those hidden paths that keep you off the main roads? Or shortcuts that let you bypass the worst climbs without feeling like you’re about to pass out?

I’m all for pushing limits, but why not be smart about it? There’s a whole world of urban cycling beyond the grind. So what’s the deal with those secret routes? Are we just stuck with the same tired advice, or is there a treasure trove of hacks we’re missing out on?
