I can't remember exactly, but we certainly had Elinor's trike last summer maybe earlier (easter?),
so it was probably about 14-16 months or maybe a bit earlier. (in fact we had the old second hand
one from the neighbours even earlier I think.)
However she didn't really pedal it then even though when her legs could reach the pedals she
preferred to scoot about mostly. but yes I'd say about now is a good time to get her one. She is now
of course able to whizz around on one all over the place.
We actually have a plastic one that the grandparents picked up somewhere in a sale for a silly
price. It's ok but not brilliant, certainly now when she rides the metal ones at the nursery she
seems to find it much easier (and faster !). Personally I'd prefer to get her onto a better one,
SWMBO is not so keen.

A parent handle is dead handy (we don't have one....) if out in the park, going up and down
the road etc.
On this topic, I've been wondering about trikes and bikes and little ones etc. As indicated above
the one we have has it limitations.
Being averse to stabilisers my gut feeling is to get a better trike for now and then a bike later,
say 4 (when do they learn to ride a bike?) or so when she can learn to ride it. However, her cousin,
who is 3 got a bike +stabilisers for his recent birthday and was happily whizzing around on this -
financially his may make better sense maybe?
(Fond memories here of the trike my granddad made for me when I was little, I even had a trailer
that I towed behind it :-))
