I stepped on the scale today I I'm down 55 pounds which feels great. Well what came next is what really blew my mind. My wife looked at the scale, then looked at me and said.."you should really reward yourself with that Trek 5200 that you could not afford to buy last year", (this year I can comfortably afford it).
Heck, I know my 1200 is only a year old but how often does one get this sort of "ok". 🙂 So I'm looking for a bit of advice here. Which way do I go? My 1200 is nice and I like it, but that 5200 keeps whispering to me, and especially with the wife seal of approval it's hard to resist the temptation to head down to the LBS.

Same LBS? See if they'll let you trade in the "old" bike? (Or, just keep it as your back-up ride.)

Rainy day bike, sunny day bike. Spare if something happens to one, or during normal maintainance, less interrupted ride time. --D-y

I can buy it whenever I but the truth is that I'm really lucky because I have a super supportive wife.

If you decide to do it, look for a sale. In Southern California, the Jax Bicycle stores are having a sale Aug 3 - 7, and one item is the Trek 5200 Triple, reduced to $1999 USD. That is what I paid for mine (it was a double chainring) four years ago.
I ordered the 5200 today. My LBS didn't have my size on hand but Trek confirmed that they had one in their local NJ warehouse so we placed the order this afternoon. Since I'm in NJ I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I may be on it by this weekend.

I actually went by the local Jax shop just to look, and lo and behold, they had a 62cm bike in stock. Now, what am I supposed to do? I can't really justify buying it. I still might go give it a spin tomorrow at the end of my ride.
