Dude if you REALLY suspect that you've popped a bit of your stomach up
to the wrong side of your diaphragm, then go see a doctor. If I recall
correctly, though, that's pretty much the only type of hernia you need
worry about in that region (and it's internal, not under the skin),
unless you've completely ripped through two layers of muscle, and I
would imagine there'd be no questions in your mind about being really
hurt if that happened. If you popped something out near your lower
abdomen, then that's a different type of hernia in a known weak spot
for men, but from what I understand you to be saying, your soreness is
on the opposite side of the abdomen, right?
cheers,
Ari
If the pain is really over the sternum, i.e. the bone, then you
probably strained something minor. If it's between the bottom of your
sternum and your navel, it could be a hernia. I popped one there doing
[censored] pulls. The good news is it's pretty minor as hernias go. Feel
around and see if there is a lump--if there is see if you can massage
it out of existance. If there isn't just monitor it--mine didn't become
noticeable for a few weeks, I think.
Hugh
There is no lump as far as I can tell. It's been 4 days and it doesn't
hurt anymore. If it were a hernia, would the discomfort just go away on
its own?
So it is in the upper abdomen, not over the bone?
I am not a doctor, but FWIW: Yes, the discomfort might well just go away
on its own. I popped mine in September and didn't get it looked at until
the following January--I only know when I started it because I made a note
in my log. I didn't have a lump right away--I noticed it later, massaged
it, it went away, didn't come back for a while--noticed it again after
pullups, massaged it away again--came back--finally decided to go in.
So even if it's a hernia you can probably afford to ignore it until you
get a lump or pain that bothers you.
But it might just be a muscle or tendon strain. You can probably afford
just to take it easy and see what develops.
Unless it's a toomah.
Hugh
