I don't know that is really a Southern thing but they have been around a
long long time for it just to be a fad. They do have good food though and if
you leave hungry from there it is because you chose not to be full or you
don't like carbs enough.

I went to one of _those_ Lambert's restaurants last summer while
visiting a friend who lives in western Missouri. There's nothing
about the place that's upscale. :-) The place reminded me of a
Cracker Barrel restaurant, except that it had a line to get in and
better food.

I've been past the one in Sikeston four times now and still haven't stopped.
I can recommend the lunch buffet in Decker at Fiddler's. The cat fish was
excellent. The fried chicken was pretty good too.

Mary, I may go to the Potatoe Patch tomorrow night. I booked a flight
to California via IAH, to go on a cruise. After I booked the flight, my
mother became ill, so I moved to Louisiana to be closer to her.

This morning I made Banana Nut Bread and it was delish!

Banana Nut Bread

2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 1/2 cups mashed bananas
1 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees (F) (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a
9x5 inch loaf pan. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and
salt.

In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar. Mash the
bananas, add the eggs and nuts, stir until well blended, add to the
butter and brown sugar, stir until mixed.

Add the banana mixture to the flour mixture; stir just to moisten. Pour
batter into prepared loaf pan. Bake for 60 to 75 minutes, until a
toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean. Cool in the
pan for 10 minutes, before removing.

Correct. In particular, based on available resources, Africa as a whole
should be self-sustaining. The problem is war; war between the dozens
of nations, between religions, between ethnic groups, between tribes;

There a multitude of issues. Then of course you have the subsidies for
the corn and wheat industries, as well as the protections for the sugar
industry. It's insane. But then so long as we let our representatives be

I've been thinking about this. I don't know the answer, but is tossing a
roll any worse than tossing a paper or plastic toy that could be (will be)
thrown out at some point? Sure, we can eat rolls, but making a toy is still
using natural resources, fossil fuels, etc. Should be ban toys? Should we
ban fuel made from grain? Should we ban anything that is not made purely to
sustain life? Do we really need decorative icing on a birthday cake?

The ingredients in a roll are pretty simple and replaceable. Just like
trees made for paper. Should we ban the newspaper? After all, apple trees
could be grown in that space and feed people.

How many of us have taken the time to take a tray of rolls to a soup
kitchen? After all, it would save them from being tossed. How many of us
have actually taken all the bread left at the "day old" store and donated
it? Perhaps anything that is fun should be banned in favor of doing good
work to help others. It is not up to me to make the moral decisions here
but it certainly is food for thought.
