I've been out of the saddle now for 2weeks due to work commitments and a new gym membership; I've noticed that a couple of problems throat related, have subsided. 1) Creaky noises from throat when swallowing, 2) Feeling that the swallow (so to speak) does not make it to the end (gets stuck in neck region). Anyone else had similar problem? I'm wondering if it was because of spending long hours with the neck/throat region in an unnatural position while cycling.

hey dude,
i think you shouldn't panic, but consider seeing a doctor - sepecially an ear-nose-thoat doc if your symptons last for more than 2 or 3 weeks.
in all likelyhood you are healthy.. yet in some rare cases, oral cancer can be a problem. early detection helps, however oral cancer is not often detected early because folks ignore symptons. 95% of oral cancer folks are heavy smokers/drinkers. yet 5% are just normal folks who got cancer.
i am a 3 yr oral cancer survivor.
cu,

I'm thinking it might be some sort of ergonomic reaction from the riding position that is causing it or at least affecting it. I posted to find out if anyone else here with similar circumstances has the same problem just to help narrow the search down a little. Thanks for your reply Larryb. Good to hear your winning.

I have a similar problem, at least the same symptoms I have had numeous ultra-sounds and have been diagnosed with Thyroid Nodules.
Not dangerous 95 percent of the time but aggravating sometimes.
The doctor has advised to have them removed only if they become too annoying for me.
So far so good.
Most people have them but they never become large enough or positioned in a way that they are noticeable.
That may or may not be your problem but as suggested ,see a doctor to make sure. Cycling and dry air might make the problem more noticeable,
Good luck. -

Good luck.Do you have any other symptoms? I did a web search on my main symptom, probably the condition that i thought most likely: Globus Hystericus
A stress related disorder. I have specifically concentrated on relaxing my throat and i've found that this has allowed me to swallow a bit differently and overall much better. Taking fish oil and evening primrose oil tablets has also helped for some reason. -

It was stress related and really put me down for about 6 weeks.
I really don't have any problems except getting choked easily if I don't chew properly. No problems breathing but seem dry air irritates me more.
I can just tell the nodules are there.
You may have a totally different situation. An Ultra Sound would probably tell you what is going on. -

First though, i might try and get myself into the habit of swallowing using a different technique. It's amazing how many different ways you can actually do it if you concentrate! Maybe somewhere along the line i got into a bad habit. Anyway thanks for the info.
