A few months ago MartinM and I cooked up an idea of riding from Thorne to Edniburgh one night following the LEL route. We have decided to do it as a 400km Permanent under AUK rules. Anyone care to join us for part or all of the journey ? Here is a page with some details on.

As I'm going to miss the 400 I was intending to do (my brother, the thoughtless sod, is getting married that day), it looks like a possibility. Awaiting permission from local management.

Send me an email if/when you are in, and I'll make sure you get the final rendezvous instructions.

Three of us have already made some arrangements for travel and accommodation so date and time is not negotiable I am afraid.
I'm hoping, but I doubt I can get up to an appropriate level of fitness in time.
I'm now seriously doubtful. Family and health have kept me far behind where I wanted to be fitness wise, And I am now struggling with a bad neck with which riding any distance at any speed is painful. Maybe it is time to build a darksider..

[1]I know the reception in some remote parts is lacking.

go for it; I got a train ticket up to Doncaster for £9.50; the plane back from Edinburgh was a lot more but what the heck. Scenery looks wonderful.
MSeries; I assume I just enter the controls on the back of the entry form?

I think so. I have entered some other DIY perms but not had the cards so far and obviously not ridden the rides. Sheila asks for a months notice so we have plenty of time, not like the ride will fill up !!! Once I have done my first DIY Perm (march or Aprl) I'll be able to explain the proces properly, going by Sheilas document which is in Arrivee thats all you need to do though.

I have received my permanent Brevet Card back for the ride; all I did to enter was send Sheila Simpson a normal entry form with the route and control details printed on the back from MSeries' web page, plus £2 and a SAE. If you want to join us for all or part of it just amend the controls accordingly. I imagine not using the 'official' controls will be too complictaed, they are not the real LEL controls as it is. You can of course make up your own route from the LEL route to suit as long as the distance is accurate and cannot be cut short.
That's assuming you want it credited as an AUK ride; if not just turn up and ride.
I won't be doing it. There is no way I can go from my current state[1] to fit enough in 6 weeks.
Enjoy!

[1] Persistent on/off sinusitis for two months. Left me feeling like [censored] just riding 2 miles home (OK, there is a hill in there). Now knocked on the head thanks antibiotics, but the longest ride I have done this year so far is under 40 miles and I don't intend to start an intensive training schedule.. Might be up to a 150 by then, but not a 400.
