I'm not up on all the latest gadgets. Was on bike.com and they were advertising $3500 Campy wheels.
WTF is up with that? Have the Masters Fatties taken it to a whole new level?

Now I've got to admit that you guys really think big. One of my bikes cost me $3.6K and I can't

You think that's cool? I weigh 200 lbs and have a set of Mavic Heliums. Now THAT'S cool.
I haven't thought of Heliums in a long time. They don't have a particularly tall rim profile, as
I recall, but get away with fairly minimal spoke counts (26/28????). At the shop I used to help
at, I only remember retruing one Helium, and all the people I talked to who had them said they
were pretty stout (especially considering their weight). The taller welded rim shapes that are
being used now do make wheels a bit stronger and certainly allow the use of fewer spokes
(although that has its drawbacks - as Bob Schwartz pointed out here a while ago, if you lose one
spoke, it could be catastrophic.)I've got a set of Fiamme rims on Airlite hubs (big red flanges, chrome centers).
You should, of course, know better than to brag about your weight in this forum...
