  1. last night i had one of those moments, like when you know you must act or
suffer great consequence. riding home down 9th, at night in the rain. truck
pulls across the road out of side-drive. moment of clarity, time stretches
to accomodate several thoughts in one tenth of a second: about 20mph, brakes
are wet, cant stop in time, too late to accelerate past, turn right and hope
not to slide under truck aim for right front tire of truck -if i hit that
tire i may go up on the hood otherwise will slide under and get
squashed-....driver sees me and swerves to the left just enough for me to
turn-out (bike performs beautifully). another moment of clarity: rush of
adrenalin, loud shout, dual finger salute raised. no excuses, my bike is lit
up like a gd xmas tree and i'm holding ground (adrenalin surge)...one
thought is that if i had been driving there would definitely have been a
    collision.

Sounds like you almost "failed to avoid a metal object".

Angels were watching out for you. I think it's time to light a candle at the
Chapel of St. Ignatius, or put some flowers at the feet of the Buddha at the
Vajralama Buddhist Center, or similar, in gratitude.

who knows? maybe it's that on my run i've been spinning the prayer wheels at
the temple in my neighborhood (greenwood-Tibetan-sat in once, as a
Zen-nothing meditator i found it really strange)...i could certainly offer
something to one of the Quan-Yin's in my house (chinese bodhissatva) or at
least be mindful not to point the soles of my feet at Buddha! the cat left
    hairball offering yesterday...
actually i credit myself and the skill of being acutely aware of my
surroundings which is a great benefit of cycling because we are so numb most
of the time! and thinking about the "moment of clarity" it is actually a
very beautiful thing to act without fear, anger or any other precognition.
ya. amen. om. whatever. i think i'd be injured if i'd been driving...numb
    in the big metal box.

Don't forget "keeping a proper distance".

Yeah, you might have scratched that truck and be held liable!
