  1. I hoped to brighten the day a little for my SO, who never hears from his
children on Father's Day or any other time, that is, unless they're in
    trouble or want a handout.

A month or so ago I had ordered some peameal bacon from Canada and stored
in the freezer. We started the day with very spicy Bloody Marys. We had
the bacon, nicely fried, and waffles made from a recipe I copied from an
early edition of The Good Housekeeping Cookbook many years ago. No butter
needed for the waffles, as it's all in the batter. Grade A Dark Amber
    Maple Syrup for pouring.

Special Day Waffles (the cookbook title)

    Recipe By :
    Serving Size : 6 Preparation Time :0:00
    Categories : Breads Breakfast
    Robb's

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    -------- ------------ --------------------------------
    2 c Sifted all-purpose flour
    3 ts Double-acting baking powder
    1 t Baking soda
    1 t Salt
    2 c Buttermilk
    4 Eggs, well beaten
    1 c Melted butter (yes, 1 cup)

Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt. Combine buttermilk, eggs; add to
flour mixture. With hand beater, or mixer at high speed, beat until
    smooth; whisk in butter.

When waffle iron is ready to use, pour batter into center of lower half
until it spreads about 1" from edges. Bring cover down gently. Cook
until no steam escapes. Do not raise cover during baking.

When waffle is done, lift cover; loosen waffle with fork; serve at once.
Reheat iron before pouring in next waffle.

  2. On my husband's first Father's Day, I sent him off to work with
sausage and egg on a toasted English muffin and a travel mug of
    freshly ground pecan coffee.

I'll try it! I don't want to live forever! But I'll top them with Grade B
    maple instead of Grade A.

Sounds tasty! Especially the pecan coffee.

Yep, it's a "killer" recipe, but we don't have them often. I prefer Grade
B, too, but couldn't get it.

That's very sad. I'm sorry to hear this. Tell him Happy Father's

Oh, [censored], I hate the poisonous, vindictiveness, but-I'll-use-you of some
spouses/children. Most of our friends in similar positions have not had
this abuse, I'm happy to say. Major good on you for giving him a good day.

OTOH, my step-daughters give me wonderful attention on Mother's Day and my
own daughter forgets about me. What does this say? Other than she has a 2
1/2 yo and is preggers with twins?

    Pam

BTW, the step-daughters, Ed's daughters, showed up on Father's Day with food
    and a chocolate cake to die for! He's a well-loved man. ;-)
