I Dunno. It's pretty accurate. It's "terrorism" if somebody else does
it, but it's "protecting freedom" if we do it. We are the hypocrites
and laughingstocks of the world, and it's embarassing. I just hope
people in other parts of the world realize that not all Americans are
    Sheeple.

Well, Wayne. It's pretty accurate except for the last line. The US did
commit to the SIM (metric) measurement back in the early 70s and then backed
out because of corporate whining, and your liquid measures do vary from the
old Imperial system. Your government does have a long history of backing
various tyrannical governments while espousing rhetoric about democracy. The
invasion of Iraq did subvert the UN, and look at the mess it created there.
Rather than just suggesting that anyone who agrees with the comment can go
to hell, you might have tried to present an intelligent argument about how
    the comment was inaccurate.

I usually leave these things alone, but... Is there a logical reason for
bringing this into this newsgroup? OR.... did you get up on the wrong side
of the bed? have a fight with someone and need a place to vent? perhaps

Yes, it is pretty accurate. What pisses me off is the same people with
this attitude are only too happy to have us fight their wars, eat our food,
take whatever support we offer, and then have the never to ask for more.

How is it that they don't ignore us when they come running with their hands

Take your pick. :-) What really gets to me is the very same people running
to us for help when they need it. We're good enough to fight their
battles, heal their wounds, and feed them, but otherwise we're only good
enough for their criticism. If we're to be ignored, then let them help
themselves and stew in their own juices. I wouldn't walk a step to pull

That galls you. The US is a major economic power with a lot of people and a lot
of money. Yet, per capita contribution to aid is a fraction of what people and
governments of some of the other industrialized countries give. You should do
a little research to find out how much others are giving compared to the US. I
am not saying that you need to be embarrassed about it, because a lot of aid
money, IMO, just goes down the drain or to corrupt officials.

As for fighting wars.... WW I you entered late. It was almost over by the time
American soldiers arrived and they weren't all that effective. They helped to
tip the balance in favour of the Allies. In WW II, you were late again. The
war had been going on for more than 2 years before the US got involved.
Vietnam? Why you ever got involved in that was a major puzzle. Not learning
from that mistake, you went into Iraq, and getting rid of the WMDs proved to be
a much easier task than you had thought, since there turned out not to be any.
Nobody asked you to go. Not many wanted you to go. You dislodged an evil
dictator there, only to cause utter chaos in the country. Meanwhile, your
government cozzies up with the House of Saud, one of the most repressive
    governments in the world.

The US has a long history of wanting to call the shots and then reneging on its
commitments. The sad fact is that nobody seems to be able to count on your
help or your promises. You only do what you want to do, and that is more often
than not dictated by corporate lobbying.

It is human nature. Just look around the neighbourhood or your family. The
difference is that it is on a national level so looks bigger. Everyone is
guilty.. even the good ol' USA. How many times have people from other
countries heard that no-one ever helps the US? Meanwhile they have sent
assistance over and over again.. and other times offers have been refused.
The US is just bigger and louder.. as Pierre Eliot Trudeau once said.. it is
like sleeping next to a giant.. when they roll over you notice.

I would suggest that you go and ask the survivors of the contra war in
Nicaragua what they think about the 'help' the USA contributed.
Further I suggest you go through the same exercise with the survivors of the
    civil war in El Savalvador.
There are others but no need to post an extensive list.
Your position that the USA is all sweetness and light and *any* criticism
comes from ungrateful [censored] just doesn't stand up.
Amazingly, with the exception of a handful of zealots who think they have
eternity on their side, most of the world's citizens do not hate Americans.
Their attitude toward the American administration is an entirely different
    matter.

    Sincerely.

    the matter.

So, finding your comment absolutely indefensible, it is time to duck and
    run?

I have neither a need to defend my comment nor to duck and run. I have an
opinion to which I am entitled and which I stated. I did not and do not
    intend to argue any point.

I can deal with metric just fine. I guess intellectually challanged
people should stick to only one system for simplicity's sake.

I would think that having a standard for measurements would be a good thing.

I like the metric system for it's simple base 10 math.

Now if we could please have a world vote on which side of the street to
    drive on? 😉
