Riding to work this morning, stopped at red traffic lights
on Hanover Street, at the pedestrian crossing. Taxi pulls up
behind me. Then taxi drives off and goes through the red
light. I wait another ten seconds until light goes green,
and catch the taxi up as it's stopped at the newsagent's 100
yards down the road. I say to the driver, "do you know
you've just gone through a red light?" Of course he was
totally so-what about it. "I'm not [censored] waiting there all
day" (waiting time required: 10 seconds, all day: 86,400
seconds) and started making towards me. So I got his
registration number, scarpered with a cheery "bye bye" and
emailed the council. Still waiting for response.
Coming home tonight, big oil tanker thingy overtakes me.
More accurately, drives past as if I wasn't there. About two
feet between tanker and kerb. Tanker very fast. Two sunken
grids at kerb. If I swerve out to avoid grids I go under
tanker's wheels. If I bounce across the grids I might swerve
sideways. Bouncing across had less risk. Eek.
A mile from home, it starts raining. Only thirty seconds of
rain but just enough to soak me to the bone, and I'm
wearing shorts & T-shirt and road too busy to stop and put
jacket on.
Damnit.
