  1. Ok this is why I drink water
    1. to regulate appetite -- people often think they are hungry when they are
    just thirsty
    2. less water retention -- your body wont store what it has plenty of.
    3. less headaches
    4. decrease in risk of some cancers -- colon cancer runs in my family water
    helps with that
    5. helps flush toxins and other waste products
    6. improves skin -- want a healthy glow? want less wrinkles? dry skin? drink
    water

I'm not saying you have to drink like a fish <do fish really drink?>

well anyway if you want to drink more here are some tips I posted on Jan
31, 2003 post name was Drink water!!!! (tips from Laura Richards) <BTW I'm
not LR and I don't know her personally>:

ok a lot of people have been talking about drinks other then water and I
admit I'm not that great at getting all the water that I need so here are
some tips taken from The Secret to Low Carb Success from Laura Richards to
help incurage everyone (including me) to keep drinking your water.

please remember "a pound per pint" so don't get upset if you see a weight
    gain at first.

these are NOT quotes but they are the tips Laura Richards gives they are on
    pages 239-241

    ~eat something spicy
~eat something salty (don't over do it!)
~drink water when you are hungry (some say it goes down easier when you are
    hungry)
~take iced tea and water at the same time when you are 1/2 through the tea
    refill it with the water.
~try different botteled waters (I love Evian & Aqufina)
~get a water filter (see the post solution to nasty water)
~find your preferred water temp ( some like it cold some like it warm
    ect...)
~drink your water in several sessions ( like1 glass every hour or half hour)
~drink water through a straw (this works!)
~ find a fun way to keep track of how much water you have had (someone once
said they used rubber bands when ever they filled there water they would
place a rubber band on the bottle)
~drink non-flavored carbonated water (I saw an interview with Chair once and
she said that she cant drink plan water so she drinks carbonated water)<
    ;oP>
~give it time, start to drink one or two more cups a day with in a week or
so you will be in the habit of drinking plenty of water

    sorry about my spelling

    Interesting.

Hmm...the question is, do I need to drink extra water to deal with this?

Fat seems to have a bigger impact IME.

    Yeah, I hate tap water.

    Cold!

    || ~drink your water in several sessions ( like1 glass every hour or

I can't be bother to time myself on when to drink water.

    || (someone once said they used rubber bands when ever they filled

Can't be bothered. Life is too short for this, IMO. I just drink either
when I like to or when I think I need to.

    || ~drink non-flavored carbonated water (I saw an interview with Chair

Well....if you have to force it, it don't seem right. I could see doing
some of this if there were some visable clear problem that results from
getting too little water. I mean, when you eat too much you get fat and
ugly (well, speaking for myself) and health issues result. But what are the
clear indicators for too little water? i'm not convinced.

Yup. It is called hormones. Our bodies naturally put on water weight
every month in anticipation of becoming pregnant. If we do not get
pregnant that month we lose that water retention with our TOM.

This is why I avoid sodium in *all* forms as much as I can.
It keeps the water retention minimal.

Excess of anything is never a good thing.
There is no scientific basis for any of this. As I averred in a previous
    post, it's a myth that is a
a holdover from baseless tenets of the Stillman diet of the 70's.

Here's a great, sensible article from WebHealthMD on the subject:
    http://my.webmd.com/content/article/14/1668_51096

Drink when you're thirsty and you'll get all the water your body needs.
    We're designed that way.
The only thing extra you're flushing by drinking gallons of water is more
    urine.

I agree Peter, from everything I've read there is no benefit in drinking way
more water than you need. In fact, it seems like drinking too much water can
wash too many electrolytes out of your body and cause cramps and even death
in extreme cases. An article I saw recently described how they are cutting
back on water stops for marathons - problems with overconsumption of water
(hyponatremia) have gotten more common lately. Runners worry about
dehydration and then overdo the water - a few have died. It said
hyponatremia is more common in women.

I personally don't think it's healthy to push water to the point you're
downing many quarts, especially if you're not exercising outdoors in the
    heat.

But... many people simply are out of the habit of drinking water at all!
They may drink a soda or two, some coffee or tea... but no water. For those
people I suspect the thirst mechanism isn't functioning properly. IME, after
a couple weeks of drinking 8 glasses of water a day my thirst mechanism did
come back and I found I could rely on thirst most of the time. I do have to
make a point to have water handy, though. If it's not around (like after
each time my dogs chew up my water bottle), sometimes I do neglect to drink
much. So... I guess I'd recommend having water handy, but not force-feeding
    it. Works for me.

The thing is, this is why I drink water.... I'm not saying everyone should
drink water and I dont drink so much i'm floating but I do try to drink more
then I tend to go for on my own. (I dont drink enough of anything if I dont
make myself unless I'm eating. and yes I do drink water for those reasons
because I bloat when I look at a can of chicken soup ... my skin breaks out
on a diet of soda and I do tend to confuse hunger with thurst and so on... I
just posted how I feel about water and tips for people that feel/act the
same way. its not like I'm saying I do this drug for this reason and you
should to btw here are tips on how to get away with it. its water

I'm not a "drink water until you have to move your bed into the bathroom"
type of gal, but I certainly agree with the recommendation to up one's
water intake without getting too rigid about numbers.

There are many people who will go out of their way to prove that you don't
need to drink "that much" water, and yet happily guzzle down 2 quarts of
    diet soda per day 😉

I try to get in 4-5 glasses of water per day. It's not difficult to do
between meals, to get a glass in here and there. But other people's
    quotas may vary.

My problem is that I might recognise I'm thirsty, then I get distracted, and
it might be an hour or more before I notice I'm still thirsty... I try and
drink a small glass every time I go into the kitchen, that way I neither
    under nor over do it!
